need help with getting new guildies.
As a fellow guild leader I’ll give u this piece of advice. DO NOT spam map chat. people see this as a way to tell if a guild is struggling. What I do is i whisper individuals that don’t have a guild tag. Also don;t do a 100% rep guild cause that turns a lot of ppl off.
Yeah 100% rep has kept me out of a ton of guilds.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
I would say whisper folks that you see who don’t have tags and you’ve pugged around with and realize if they are worth it.
I would get messages from random folks as I enter a map to join their guild, turn them down, and it kept going at a rate in which I just made a self guild tag to repel it.
Also whatever you do, refrain from just inviting a person to your guild without some message.
One guy just kept spamming invites to the point I blocked him after rejecting every one of them.
It depends on what kind of people you want to attract. If you just want to get as many people as possible then just try everything. No method will have a particularly high success rate but if you keep trying it will add up.
But if you’re looking for specific people, say for example people you get along with and who you think would be a good fit for the guild, then I think it’s mainly a matter of always being on the look-out. Every time you pug with someone, or someone joins your squad in WvW (as much as you can keep track anyway) ask yourself if this person would be a good fit for the guild and if they are then whisper them about it. Encourage other members to do the same (even if they can’t invite themselves they can always ask someone to send an invite).
Speaking for myself if I get a random invite, or someone whispers me with a generic recruitment message I’ll turn it down, even if I am looking for a guild and might otherwise be interested because it gives the impression that they’re spamming everyone in sight and have given no thought to who they want in this guild and therefore what the guild should be like.
A personalised message would at least get a response and if it’s from someone I’ve recently grouped or otherwise played with and I’m interested I’d probably join. (Hypothetically, I’m not actually looking for a guild right now.)

I’ve never viewed it as a guild struggling. The map recruits I see are usually from guilds that already have a high number of members. I agree with your second part, though. I’ve been looking for a WvW guild but all of the messages I see require 100% rep, and I’m not willing to leave my small guild for that.
Complete nube here, played WoW forever (still do but am digging GW2) – what does 100% rep mean? Also what do you guys think is the ideal level to start thinking about a guild? (I have two level 7 tunes as of today)

ideal level to start thinking about a guild… level 1 I’d say..… but then that’s me, being in a guild has always been a big part of MMOs for me, and I’m a member of a large multi-games one so usually when I join a new game it’s just a matter of finding someone to invite me to that game’s chapter.
About 100% rep, unlike WoW you can be a member of up to 5 guilds in GW2, but you can only represent one at a time (think of the guild that you have active). Almost anything you do in the game earns influence, which goes to whichever guild you’re representing at the time, and that influence is used to buy guild upgrades, which is why some guilds demand you to represent them 100% of the time you’re playing. Also you can only see guild chat of whichever guild you’re representing at the time.
Going back on subject, if you have guild missions activated, they may be a good way to get new recruits. Set a time and date for the missions you have activated, and start advertising it with a few days in advance (you can do that in LA’s map chat or www.reddit.com/r/GuildMissions ). Give temporary guild invites to whoever shows up, and create a new rank for them (so you can track them better who’s temporary and who’s not) and tell them that you’re going to remove the temporary ones after it’s done, but whoever wishes to stay, just let you know.

Place Guild Buff Banners in places around champ farms (Queensdale, Frostgorge), and then say in map chat something along the lines of guild banners at [where-ever] curtesy of [Guild Name].
This attracts a lot of people as you are giving them a boost to their farming.
I recently created my own guild for casual game play and mostly wvw squading and crafting. It is small but we already have four commanders. I hate spamming in map chat and also whispering to people with seemingly no guild. I’ve posted on these forums with little reply.
Is there any other way I am missing to get more people interested in my guild? How would you spam on map chat in the best and most efficient way? I’m on SoR and if anyone can help me it would be great.
Thanks
Play well with others partied up or not and answer questions people may have in map chat even if it may seem like an obvious question at first .Getting to know a random can be the best way to bring them into a guild not some spammed message in map chat .

The best time to join a guild is whenever you’re ready. You can join, and contribute, from level 1 (although you wouldn’t be able to do all the guild missions because some are set in higher level areas) and most guilds don’t have a level requirement.
As for 100% rep it basically means you can only be in 1 guild at a time. The guild system lets you join up to 5 guilds at once, but you can only represent one at a time. The guild you’re representing is the one you see in guild chat, whose bonuses you get and who you earn influence for. So if you’re representing one guild all the time
The popular theory on the forum is that last one is the only reason guilds require 100% representation – so they can get all your influence.
But in my experience there can be a lot of reasons. For example in some guilds the chat channel is the main appeal – having people to talk to in-game, and if people aren’t representing they can’t do that. And some guilds are specifically for people who only want to be in one guild.
As with everything else when choosing a guild it really comes down to personal preference. I’m in a guild with a 100% rep rule and I wouldn’t want to change, but other people want to be in multiple guilds and obviously then it’d be a bad idea to join one that wants 100% rep.

There is a lot of discussion bout representing. I think pure 100% representing guilds are bad and won’t work. The most annoying fact bout people not representing is not so much the influence your missing out but more that it makes your guild look less active. I see them therefor the same as people who are not online. Or better said, they are (as the people not online) not considered active members. Having too many inactive members can be an issue. Just recently I saw a remark from someone who recently joined saying, ‘wow, you are bad only 50/500 people online’. (it was an afternoon on a weekday). The issue is that we don’t like people who are inactive, but also don’t want to kick them without giving them a fair change. People not representing often have very good reasons and they are NOT bad people. So while it is ok to have some rukitten ut it, it is also important to talk with them bout it. The feedback they can provide you is very valuable.
The way my guild handles it is that it is ok to be inactive/not represent. If not representing we have a talk with you and you are marked (given a different rank with the normal priveleges). If you start representing us again after a good amount of time the mark is lifted. When a new member wants to join our ranks we kick one of the people inactive (either due to not representing or inactive). Simple philosophy behind it is that we rather have active new members then inactive old members..
As for the OP, starting a guild now takes a lot of time to invest. The first and most important thing you have to ask yourself is what makes you unique. Almost all servers have atleast one guild that specializes in WvW with 500 members that can always use now acitve people. Besides that many of the big established guilds are active in WvW as well and have continuous pressence there.
So why should people join you instead of them? You are doing the right things to advertise your guild, but apperantly people are missing a unique selling point.
If you offer the same as the established guilds you won’t get many members.

I think I want my guild to focus on breaking up into squads focusing on wvw and letting the bigger guilds zerg around the map. This way I want to have wvw players that would actually rather run around with a smaller group flipping and doing temples for bloodlust buff. These players might be good at spvp as well, since they generally know how to fight better or use their skills best to help a small group. I also want to refrain from TS or any com being mandatory. Sometimes people just want to eat doritos and watch blade runner while playing, not listen to commanders all day telling them what to do or where to go. I know coms can be an advantage in wvw and dungeons, but it starts to get where the coms become their own competitive place for hardcore gamers to just be elitists. In my guild, I want to have the option to listen to commanders, but it shouldn’t be mandatory I don’t think—is it really that hard to whisper someone or just map chat?
Ok, thanks for sharing. You have your own opinions off course, but I sense many reasons you are giving to be your selling point is what you think is bad bout the others. But what is so good bout yours?
If I’m selling a new brand of coke it is easy to say that Coca Cola is too sour and Pepsi is way to sweet. But it doesn’t explain why mine is better. So try to focus not on what others are doing wrong, but on what you are good at. in advertising people dont want to hear something negative, but something positive. Compare the following two lines and see whats more appealing to you.
1: this dress makes you look sexy and slim
2: this dress makes you look less fat and ugly
Both are saying the same thing but wich one do you think is more appealing??

My guild will focus on roaming squads in wvw making our server a more well rounded one. Focusing on flipping camps, npc events, tapping on enemy keeps, making sure supply is flowing, temples for bloodlust, stomping, and creating general havoc for our enemies. We will be an elite force of a few good players.
