Guild Wars 2

So i’ve returned to the game just hit level 80 which i haven’t previously done before. So i’ve found a “Crystal Guardian” greatsword in my inventory and i’ve decided to use that. What sort of equipment and accessories etc do i need to complement this? i have no idea what stats i should looking for or traits i should be using. Would love some help, i have gold i just don’t know what to look for on gear.

edit: i would also like to buy a shield and sword for some sort of defensive weapon set, what stats should these contain?

List the current popular builds in each of the three game mode. For equipment you’ll be looking to start with exotics and then upgrade to ascended later which is timegated gear. You’ll find berserker stats are what most people run. Depending on your supply of laurals you can get an ascended amulet. You can also by rings and accessories with those too but they can be bought elsewhere cheeper. Rings from fractals and accessories from guild missions.

I personally find, playing with builds the best things to do. Have a look at all the trait lines and see what you like the sound of, then see how they fit in with you play.

Meta battle is good if you want to know what the “must run” builds are. But all in all I find I have more fun with my own builds in PvE.

Crystal Guardian has celestial stats – greatsword is a power weapon on all professions that can use it, so no point looking at metabattle.

It’s a nice skin, I think most ppl just BLK-salvage it for the skin+dark materia, or throw it in MF with other exotic greatswords (only if they want to unlock the skin that way!), otherwise TP it.

You could also keep it to experiment with your own builds, especially post patch when new metas are developing – that to me would be quite fun.
I’m not sure which profession to reserve it for, but if you’ve already soulbound it to your Warrior then maybe some kind of hybrid build would work with Berserker (Chronomancer is looking like a better bet though).

thanks for the help guys, i found the “Phalanx Strength” in the end and got berserker equipment and a exotic mace/axe for opening the combo into hundred blades. Got a full exotic set via market/karma/pvp vendors. Should i buy 6x Superior Rune of Strength for my set? also i’ve been farming strong bloods in southsun for “Versatile Mighty Infusion” but i’m wondering where to go from here? i bought a shoulders ascended recipe in the pvp lobby for 5 laurels and 3G but looks like i can’t open it and peak at the requirements without first having the high end armorsmithing. See what you mean by timegated w/ daily login, just wondering if i should be farming and getting runes of strength on the eve of this expansion, will it contain new runes and standards? While i’m sure i can’t get “meta” its definitely given me something to work with

just to clarify i only returned to this game 3 days ago so i’m bewildered by lots of it, at least now i’ve got something to work with though

Which game mode? PvE/PvP/WvW

PVE basically, seems like WvW is just a death train unless you roam and pvp doesn’t seem dependent on equipment
