I find i like Warrior and Engineer’s the most but got tolled by some 1 that they are not good at all

Nobody is going to be able to tell you what you’re going to like, but it sounds like you already have some idea. Warrior is a strong solo class and quite useful in group PvE. They can also use shields, if that’s your thing. I’d suggest exploring the warrior class further at this point. You can always decide you want to try something else later, but in the mean time you have to pick something!

My warrior mains shield. In fact I have shield on Guardian, Chronomancer and Revenant/Herald. I find the Warrior most useful for me – it blocks, it can reflect when traited and it stuns. It’s the most ‘shield like’ shield in the game and works well with most main hands the warrior has.

Warriors are very sturdy, great all rounders. They probably don’t excel in certain areas, but whoever told you they aren’t good at all is talking nonsense.

Mesmer on accounts that have Heart of Thorns get the use of a shield at level 80. You can go up to the PvP lobby area (crossed swords on top, left side of your UI), set up the elite traits for shield, buy a cheap white shield from a weapons vendor and try it out on the sparring NPCs and golems.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Having known you for well over 6 decades now, having been there for the birth of your daughter, for the birth of your daughter’s daughter, having helped you through your wife’s passing, I can tell you that guardian is your favorite character.

Sounds like warrior or engi are what you enjoy playing.

I was gonna suggest something, but I think you just got advice from someone who knows you (VERY) well…

shields? warrior and engineer both have a good offense/defense shield mechanic, but warrior’s shield block reflects once traited.

Guardian is support/defense; one skill applies aegis to allies in the effect cone (and hurts enemies) and the other provides repulse and projectile erase.

Ignore what the others say. If I had to stick to a class that could use shield I’d def. go with the warrior, as you have a great means of interrupt with that, and can reflect projectiles with your traited block.

Why not engi? He does have two means of block, one is straight-out shield which is hard to fit into mobility, but the other is provided by the Tool Kit loadout (of course, however, Tool Kit turns your engi into melee while you have it equipped.. it has some benefits).

The important thing I should outlay is that you should experiment and don’t step out of your comfort zone if someone tells you to (“shield is useless”, I disagree). If it works for you, stick to it.

first things first, never let anyone tell you your class is bad. There are no bad classes. Sure some classes have advantages others dont making them more effective at something, but unless you plan on raiding which I don’t see new people do in a week, everything you do is just as good as whatever everyone else is doing.

Try the classes, try different weapons, try different skills.. find what works for you and what not
A player experienced in a not-meta build can be better than an unexperienced player in a meta build. I’ve seen it happen several times. i don’t run a meta build on my ele in PvP, and sometimes get called out for it by people who do run meta builds and end up with less than half my score

Nah, play what seems fun to you and don’t worry about what anyone says.

Class balance changes from time to time and what’s best today may not be best in a few months. So you may reach 80 and then a month later the character you really wanted to play anyway might be in a great place. It’s also worth noting that you receive boosts for experience granting free levels to characters so you can level up an alt with very little effort.

This is a great site to give you an idea of the best current character builds.
