over-powered vs underpowered classes?
This appears to depend on which thread we’re reading at the moment.
Thief is the most OP.
These threads are so dumb, especially when the game hasn’t been out for long.
“X killed me repeatedly, X is OP!”
“I can’t kill people with Y, Y is UP!”
If you’re dying to X try changing your strategy when fighting X. This game is not a simple MMO, the combat is very complex and deep. It takes more than a week to master and completely understand.
If I didn’t know any better this was meant to be posted in the league of legends forums
Anyways in all seriousness, different classes have their strengths and weaknesses and roles in pvp.
IMHO there is so much variation on builds using traits, trait perks gear modifications and different skill sets that is would be difficult to accurately say if a proffesion is over or under powered.

Pretty much this
Like for example, people are saying elementalists are weak and can’t duel but I’ve also seen utility/support specs that use AoE and utility and setup awesome kills for teammates and wrecked while doing so.
It’s hard to say especially since the game has been out 2 weeks.
Theres no such thing as a bad class only bad players.

Well that isn’t strictly true at all. Balance issues are ongoing and some classes will be stronger than others.

“roles” prep for hatemail breh
thief takes the cake with damage, but if you want the most annoying look at the mesmer, i got poly’d into a turkey and none of my cc breaks would clear it

Turkey… Lol
I guess thief/warrior…. Not sure why warrior they just seem to give me more trouble than other ones haha. that have some move that hits me for 9k… I find to be the closest to OP. But generally I play Thief/Mesmer so in 1v1’s situations I can roll most people XD
I think the Thief has the best high damage (and survivability)/least effort ratio.
I’m getting fairly discouraged with my Engineer fighting Thieves. I’m using all my abilities, stunning them, knocking them down, chilling them, breaking out of their stuns. But it seems no matter what I do they just keep on spamming one attack and I eventually die.
I find that some classes just aren’t meant for small-scale pvp. Engineer in wvw with grenade pack on is currently one of the most devastating classes for attacking forts. 1200 range no cd/low cd ranged aoe moves slaughter defenders above the gates and below.
I dont truly believe there is a reason to think one class is overpowered and another is underpowered. I personally “enjoy” the engineer, warrior, and necromancer ….. and find the mesmer and ranger not to be to my “style” but most likely someone else will feel almost a complete opposite to my opinion. To me as long as that exists then the balance issue is a non-issue.
Good to hear things seem mostly balanced then.
Sorry but thieves are OP, elementalists are UP, everything else is fine.
Everyone gives this bullkitten about “oh the game is completely balanced because anet says so” but no, its not. Just look at the amount of people complaining. People of that amount dont complain over nothing…
warriors/theives are the best eles worst

So just curious … how many complaints divided by 1 million plus owners of Guild Wars 2 to get your percentage are you referring to? Bet it’s a much smaller percentage than you originally thought. The happy silent majority don’t need log in to complain but the voice of approval is still there and vastly outnumbers you.
P.S. Kitten FTW … best filter ever

People do complain about nothing… all the time.
However I will say the idea that the game is perfectly balanced is absurd. There will be balance changes in the future – that being said if you’re utterly failing right now regardless of class the problem is you.
People ALWAYS complain. It could be the most balanced game ever made and people would STILL complain. It’s often a vocal minority that complains too. And it suckskitten when the developers listen to this minority because they are often the least skilled players who have no idea wtf they are talking about.
Granted the games not perfect, no game ever is, but if you’re getting utterly rocked, then YOU are probably the problem.
I think, to test, I am going to play all night ONLY using Heartseeker spam, and see if it works. My guess; no. My hands and fingers had a tinge of tiredness in them last night! That hasn’t happened in a LONG time in a game.
Warriors feels to me the strongest class, but i’d rather not call any class OP or UP.
Thief is very hated for Heart Seeker skill by the people who stand there to soak it -.-
Mesmers can shine in sPvP or 1v1, but they feel very fragile to me.
In the end i think it is mainly the Engineer that should need some help as many skills are not working properly and overall damage output is quite low.
I have an Elementalist, and I die a lot. I feel like I die way more than I should, b/c I have some pretty awesome skills. I do know that I don’t do enough dodging/moving, so that is one reason for this. Then today I watched some YouTube videos on Ele’s and had my eyes opened to their potential. I personally think they’re freakin’ awesome. I would def pick one again!
So, yes, I think the biggest factor is the player.
Now it remains for me to figure out how to maximize my abilities…

Cant kill thief in 1v1. they do huge dps and stealth a way if u try attack or finish him.
Depends on what I’m playing.
If it’s Warrior, Necros, Mesmers, Elementalists, Thiefs, Engies, Rangers, and Guardians are all OP, nerf plox
