Yes, if you use the level boost you can still play through the story from the beginning. If this is your first character, though, don’t use the level 80 boost. Play through the game normally so you learn the game systems and mechanics, and enjoy the journey. Use the level 80 boost when you’re already familiar with the game and just want to take a new character straight into the high-level content.
welp if the forums are anything to go by then play anything except a necromancer, this could change tomorrow (I highly doubt it though). Also if you use the 80 boost and start the content from there, then you may find it very challenging, so I’d advice starting from the beginning and save your 80 boost for a second character (who you could then use for extra material gathering)

As already said, I too would saving the boost to after you get a feel for the game. Try out the different professions and races and see what you like and what suits your playstyle.
But as felincyriac said, if you want to do non-solo stuff necro might not be the best choice – while I main necro myself and utterly love it, it is not really viable in group content… But maybe one day, one can hope.
we all know that eventually youll have 2 of every class. so just pick something for now and enjoy the game. youll get sucked in eventually
I’ll echo what others are saying about playing it at least once normally.
I would say that while most of the classes are fine for a first character, I would avoid Mesmer, Engineer, and Revenant. They’re great classes by and large, but tend to rely more on understanding how the game works to make them function. Not the best choice for learning the game from the beginning.
Lore-wise, you’ll find that you eventually want to play through the first three arcs of all races’ personal stories. (They merge into fewer storylines after that.) To better understand the overall story, you might want to try Sylvari first, as they’ve been front and center to a lot of the plot up until recently. (Plus, they can glow a bit in the dark, which is neat.)
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Palador has great advice. I’d suggest sticking with Sylvari, Asura, or Charr initially for races: they have more interesting and different stories than the Human or Norn do, I think. Plus great voicing.
I also had the very strange experience that GW2 was the only MMO that broke away from my “normal” classes: I usually love what the match for guardian, and ranger, and thief, but in GW2 … nope. I <3 necromancer, though, and that’s something I usually dislike in other games.
So … don’t assume that what you liked elsewhere is what you will like in gw2.
Which race you choose doesn’t really matter. It affects the story you get from level 1-30 (and occasionally has an effect after that), and of course what your character looks like.
But all races can be all professions and they all have the same stats. They do get a few unique skills but none of them are very useful.
So I recommend just picking a race you like. One you like the look of or one whose lore sounds interesting to you.

That’s true. The game is a very unique jewel.
Don’t be afraid to make tests. Choose the one you think could be better for you, and level it from the base. Then use other character slot just to try builds and professions.
The booster would allow you to make this. As long as you don’t confirm what you are using in the silverwastes, you could save it for later, and try whatever you like in the 80 level.
Then you can decide.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
