So I’ve decided to finally make a legendary, the question is, and I want to make sure as the answers I’ve found were back from 2013, If I soul bind my precursor “the chosen”, and use it, can I still use the soul bound shield to make the flameseeker prophecies?

Couldn’t find the “crafting” area so posted here.

yes, you can use your precursor as a weapon until you decide to make your legendary.

Yes you definitely can. And all the other components are account bound, so you’ll be able to move them to the character who has the precursor to put in the Mystic Forge.

I made my legendary in April 2015 and I’d been using the precursor ever since I got it.

Yes you can, as long as you do not transmute it.

I’m pretty sure that means you can even if you put a different skin on it, but you can’t put its skin on a non-precursor and use that in the forge. I remain confused on the matter, however.

Personally I wouldn’t risk it either way. I kept my precursor with it’s original skin.

But I think putting a different skin onto the precursor should be ok, it should still function as the precursor in the Forge.

What you definitely can’t do is apply that skin to another weapon and expect to use that in the Forge as if it’s a precursor. IMO this is a lot clearer now we have the wardrobe system, but before that came along a lot of people would talk about transmutation as changing the stats on a weapon, when really what you were doing was putting the skin onto a separate weapon. (My analogy is that it’s like putting a new cover on your phone, or a new body on a car – you can make it look like something else but it’s still the same machine underneath.)

Which lead to some people getting a precursor, transmuting it to change the stats to something that fit their build and then being stuck when they wanted to put it in the forge.

If you transmute anything that is part of a recipe, you can not use it in the forge. For an example. The spine blade back pack. If you transmute it, you can not use it on the forge to up grade it. It’s the same with precursors. Make sure they have there original skin. In other words use them by all means, just don’t change anything about them.
