Tasks for Hearth missions are displayed in top right corner of the screen when you are in their range.
Binocular icons arent any missions, they are only to show you a close undiscovered area which contains hearths, vistas, pois etc and to give some of the “story”

Renown hearts are the “quests” for an area. As Critical said the requirements for a Heart display in the upper right hand corner when you’re in range of them. For more info please check out this link – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Renown_Heart

The “Spyglasses” are the icons for Scouts. Speaking to these will reveal nearby by renown hearts for you to complete. For more info on Scouts please check this link – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scout

The hearts are more filler content to give you extra to do when events, which are the main part of the game, aren’t available in the area you are leveling in. Completed hearts also unlock merchants who can sell you various pieces of gear and sometimes other item, for karma.

While you are playing keep an eye out for events, usually shown by an orange marking of some sort such as an orange circle or orange crossed swords, on the map. NPCs who run up to you and want to talk to you typically have an event they want to start or they want to tell you about a nearby event.

Most events in the starting area are only one or two events long but many in the higher levels have longer chains. After an event is over you can hang around a bit. See if the NPC says anything to indicate he is going to do something else and that there is more to come.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

You can do anything that’s enjoyable for you.

Personally, I like to complete the map, which means finishing all “heart” quests, vistas, Points of Interest, and Waypoints. The rewards are nice.

“My Story” starts at level 10, and a new portion is unlocked every 10 levels. You can complete this or not. Same with “Living Story”.

There’s no “right” way to play this game.

You can do whatever you like….

This game is build on getting experience from everything:
-killing.
-just exploring the map, poi’s, vista’s
-jumping puzzles
-skill points
-harvesting & crafting
-events, event chains, bosses, world bosses…
-dungeons (from lvl 30)
-achievements
- story line, (living story0
- EotM, (WvW)
and so on…

However you want to continue is your choice… Nobody can tell you what you like, you find the things you like…

In the end you’ll finish your story line and you will switch other content…
Dungeon farming/speedruns
Fractals
Event/Boss/Bag farming
WvW
PvP
Collections
Ascended / Legendary Crafting
World completion
Alt-levelling (making more characters and doing it again on other proffessions/buids…)

Which is still your own choice. The goal is to have fun, with or without other people, depending on content…

Ofcourse joining a guild will give you an acces to knowledge and experience, there are:
social, pve, pvp, wvw, dungeon, pvx(=alround), roleplaying, fractal, world boss and many more types of guild, both international and national/language based. with or without age restrictions ( open, 18+ or 21+)…..

but for now focus on geeting your character to lvl 80, then your tutorial is done

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
