swapping server area question.
I am doing it in the opposite direction. It USUALLY isn’t a problem. The recent stuff in Labrynthine Cliff is probably the biggest problem. The lightning pull can end up putting you at the wrong distance. If they add more content like it then the amount/frequency can increase.
Other thing to keep in mind. Your ISP can make a huge difference. I have a friend who was using Verizon’s FIOS and the lag became unplayable starting January and has remained that way. He has since moved and before that we did find a solution but that was not a very nice outcome. We are fairly certain it was the ISP because we are both in the same city and we were playing on the same map. While everything was perfectly fine for me he was unable activate skills and everyone was just teleporting around. Dungeons were not playable either. If he opened the instance then other people can’t join. If other people opened the instance then he can’t join. Another friend has similar issues but only on weekends minus the dungeons issue.
If you want to make the move find someone who is doing the same thing using your ISP and ideally in the same city you are in.
Khisanth, can I ask why you swapped to EU servers?
ISP for me is Virgin cable. Oldham/Tameside area.
I never swapped. I’ve been on this server since beta. The reason I am on a EU server instead of NA is because one of the people we were going to play with is in the EU(our tiny guild actually has people that spans every timezone) and she had some concerns about sPvPing on a NA server. We have about the same amount of people in the EU as people not in EU and there wasn’t really any other reason for us to stick with NA.
I’ve been playing on NA servers since December, I switched over to visit some NA friends when server transfers were free and had such a good time I never went back.
I’ve never experienced any issues with being EU (UK) based on an NA server, although I do have a very good and stable internet connection where I live. I know plenty of EU based players who live on NA servers and none of them have had any problems with lag, etc.

That was one of the very surprising things. The friend that had the problem was the one with the better connection.
Maybe the NA datacenter is better connected than the EU one. Wouldn’t be too surprising since there are probably still more physical connections to the US than to other places.
So maybe I should broaden my horizons and check it out for myself
Ty for your answers.
It has to do with route maps between your ISP and the Gw2 Server farms. with dynamic routing like BGP/OSPF stuff will change on the fly. Just cause your buddy thats on FiOS had bad connections in Jan doesnt mean it couldnt have been fixed with a call into the ISP with a ping/traceroute map to the destination.

Could have, might have but that wasn’t really the point. The point is that a stable connection is not a guarantee that there won’t be problems.
All issues can be worked out if the end user is willing to deal with the ISP. Even if that connection is going across the sea.
