I often like to change whether auto target is enabled or not. Basically, when I’m travelling through a zone and don’t want to fight my way through it, I want to be able to use my movement skills without beating on the closest neutral (or not) monster.

However, when I’m in the middle of a fight it’s annoying to get un-targetted and have to keep hitting tab to lock back on, so during combat I like auto-targetting enabled.

I found a setting “lock autotarget” that doesn’t work how I expected. I thought I could hold this down to prevent my target from changing. However, holding this button down seems to just “lock on” to the target that I would lock on to anyway if I had auto targetting enabled.

Anyone know if there is a way to “force notarget” so I can run straight forward in the few instances that I want to not run at the nearest neutral mob / run away from someone in wvw? In my searches this functionality just doesn’t exist yet.

Seems like the next best (quite a bit worse) option is to just disable auto target and hit tab or something to choose a target.

It’s just annoying to lose the convenience I enjoy 98% of the time to cover the 2% when I want to use a movement skill to no target.

I have the same problem.

I rely on autotargeting during combat, but I hate it when Im just trying to speed run through mobs and I want to stay out of combat.

my solution; if there is nothing to target within your field of vision you wont target it. I leave the auto target option on, and when I want to use a targeting movement skill to leap past mobs, angle the camera up toward the sky. No targets, no problem. Just make sure you are facing the right direction first.

Turned it off a short while after starting the game and I’ve been happy to have it off ever since. I typically fight without a target for best control over cleaving though so that isn’t necessarily for everyone. If there is a need to track a target I use the call target key.

I, too, want to be able to set a hotkey to toggle “autotarget” on|off. It’s convenient for lootfarms (tons of squishy targets) and terrible for all sort of other content (including a lot of WvW, PvP, and plenty of PvE).

I used to enjoy using auto target, but after having it off and getting used to it, it really is clear how much of a hindrance auto target is, especially in situations where you absolutely do not want to target something.

Won’t ever go back to having auto target on, myself.

Either a toggle button or have it set per character.

On my Ranger I like it on, on my Warrior definitely off. It always comes down to I notice the setting is wrong during combat and have to get in the options to change it really quick.
