I there.

I have some doubts about the trading post fees when selling stuff.
In the wiki link: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trading_Post
it says:
Additional fees
Selling items on the Trading Post requires additional coin fees, based on the total sale price.
Listing Fee (5%) — This nonrefundable cost covers listing and holding your items for sale. This fee has a minimum of 1 Copper coin.
Exchange Fee (10%) — After a successful trade, the item exchange fee is deducted from coins delivered to the seller. This fee has a minimum of 1 Copper coin.

I don’t get how this fees work even after doing some math with real examples, the numbers just aren’t right, so i guess i’m doing something wrong.

1.
Let’s say i want to place a item for sale costing 3g 25s 00b
The listing fee is: 16s 25b
The exchange fee is: 32s 50b
When i sell it what is the actually money that i get from the 3g 25s 00b?

Or, for the same item

2.
Let’s say i want to sell it instantly for 3g 13s 18b
The listing fee is: 15s 66b
The exchange fee is: 31s 32b
Again, when i sell it what is the actually money i get from the 3g 13s 18b?

If possible could someone help me to decipher the maths behind this two examples?

Thanks in advantage,
Kensishi

When you place the item on the TP the system immediately removes the 5% listing fee from your account. Then when the sale completes they deduct the 10% from the sale amount.

In both case you will receive the amount you sell, less the listing fee and less the exchange fee.

Bottom line, it costs YOU 15% to sell something.

You list an item on the TP for 10g. You have to play 50s to put this listing in.
The item costs the buyer the amount you listed, 10g.
When you go to the TP to pick up your funds, you will get 9g.

Just to head off the, “that sucks!” reply, the fee is a necessary gold sink (way to remove gold from the in game economy).

When you list for 3.25g, you may not notice the 16.25s immediately pulled from your account.

Now when the item sells and you go pick up your coin you will see 2.9250g, your list price minus 10%. Now in reality, after posting fee you only made 2.7625g.

So for 1) you will be picking up 2.9250g (2 g 92 s 50 c) and in case 2) you will be picking up 2.8186g (2 g 81 s 86 c). But in both cases your posting fee was taken out of your wallet as soon as you click OK.

Things get weird when you are selling a lot of on type of item because while the listing fee is based on the entire stack, the 10% sales tax is calculated on every sale so in the end you man get more or less back than if the stack was sold to a single buyer.

Here’s what I mean. You are selling a 250 stack of mithril ore for 55 c. Now the posting fee is 6s 88c. Now if they are all bought at one time by a single buyer, the sales tax will be 13s 75c. Now if they were instead bought as 10 stacks of 25, each stack has a sales tax of 1s 38c so overall you are taxed 13s 80c instead of 13s 75c so you end up a little less.
