Guild Wars 2

Hi folks. Just got the game for Christmas and have been having a lot of fun.

I have particularly liked the guardian and warrior. Was wondering about what roles the two professions fill later in the game. Both PvP and pve. Demand. Either considered op or up?

In pve both guardian and warriors are in a good spot. Both suffer from stacking multiple though, so if you play with a regular group, don’t try to get 2 guards/ wars at the same time. For pvp, the meta is celestial and engis and eles are abundant, however bunker guards are still a thing and at average level you can have a lot of fun with med guard and hambow warriors. In WwW, both are the frontline of any zerg, so they are really on the plus side.

guardian is the way to go if you do pug dungeon/fractal.

For premade, it depend on what your group is lacking.

I once get kicked out of a fractal group because I’m a guardian. I accidently joined one of those elite dungeon speed run group(judging by their guild name). And someone complained I’m a guardian and got kicked. Guardian dont’ have much in ability to stacking might. But is the best in pug, because of reflect, and the ability to burst spam heal if needed, and ability to give protection to guild. You can quickly switch build depend on how good/bad your group is.

For Spvp you can play whatever you like. Obviously because you can play spvp at any level. Warrior is “really” hard to play in spvp though. So not recommended if you are a beginner in to spvp.

For wvw, I dont’ really know. Warrior have one of the best mobility. So warrior can roam from point to point really fast. If you are into karama farming(capping point), warrior is nice. Guardian staff is pretty awson in large group, since he can spam staff 1 and hit many target. Also stability and empowered is nice for large group combat.

What do you mean about demand?

In PvP, no matter which Arenas you play (Unranked or Ranked), the server picks the match for you and people won’t risk getting dishonored to quit the match no matter which profession you play.

If you plan to get into a high ranking teams for tournament, it’s up to your skills and their preference. I have seen all sorts of team comps. Even if the meta is shifted to ele/engi stacking, there is still presence of both guardian and warrior.

In PvE, you can play how you like there. For Epic World Bosses like Tequatl or Triple Wurms, a few specific things are asked, but nothing beyond reach. For dungeons, if you enter a wrong pug group, you’ll be kicked no matter which profession you play. It’s only the matters of knowing the encounters and how to play your class.

Guardian is great for WvW due to its support and multi-tagging staff auto-attack. It is also a good bet in PvE as it brings a lot of support to dungeons and fractals. The only PvE where it isn’t preferred tends to be in very elite zerker runs. I’d say Guardian is weakest in PvP but is still viable. I personally have a fair bit of success running meditation guardian builds in PvP. Bunkers are also pretty decent but very few high end PvP teams use Guardians.
Warriors are viable in all three modes but from my experience and from what others have said, they get a bit boring. You may well find yourself pigeon holed into a zerker build for most content.
Personally I think Guardian is most rewarding because you’ll almost always be the last one alive

For as far as PVE pug-dungeon runs concerned, I prefer playing guard over warrior.
I may lack the ability to stack might or buffing with banners as such, but I provide: blocks, aborbs, reflects, condi cleanses, regens and other things that may keep the party rolling.
