i’m new to guild wars and i was wonder what class i should be. i have try Engineer but he seam weak aging hordes of enemy and his health goes down too fast i like class with mail armor. i’m dps with both range and melee , and i would like to have both to use. pet ant really a big dale with me i like dungeons. but it seems that pvp is the only way to show you have some skills. i like both pve and pvp. i like to play on my own. so i guess what i’m say is i what a hybrid

there is nothing wrong with engineer. and it is a very fun class to play. The best description is that it is the special ops of gw. this means that it is very versatile and fun to play, but also requires a lot of understanding of the game. So for someone starting with your problems I do advise to consider a different class. (and will give you advise soon). But also understand that your problems might not only be with the class. This game is not bout standing still and hitting buttons 1 to 0. It means you need to be on the move with any class. learning how to dodge is very important for staying alive. My advise to you would be the ranger.

The ranger has the same armor as the engineer. it has a pet that tanks for you. It has good healing and a good amount of CC. And it can be used to try different roles like melee range (just to try, you won’t excel).

The biggest disadvantage of the ranger is that it is hard to be very good, it makes the game easy to play, but when it comes to end game you are a bit limited. But you have 5 character slots, and the ranger is a great way to learn to play the game and have fun doing it.

a few things that may help you decide:

first, you really can’t get a full feel for a profession until you hit 80 and can play with all the traits. there are things on my guardian I can do now that I couldn’t do in early levels, and it makes a huge difference.

that being said, you can go into the heart of the mists as soon as you create a character and boom, you are level 80. you can change traits whenever you like and play around with stats and builds. they even provide “steady” weapons (that always do the same amount of base damage) to see how your changes effect your output.

and finally, if you really want to be dps and like to see lots of big damage numbers, I’d recommend Warrior, Necromancer, Thief or to a lesser extent Mesmer. (I have no experience playing Ele, but I hear they can also zerk with the rest of them fairly well)
