I only have 27 laurels and idk what to do with them. I know there’s a merchant but is there anything really valuable there I should be buying and maybe trading for gold?

D/D Elementalist takes no skill but is good at everything in the game.
Mesmer is unfun to play against and does everything better than thieves.
Hoping those two get gutted with nerfs

The popular opinion is save them for ascended amulets. My opinion is use them however you want. If you want to convert to gold, buy Heavy Crafting Bags. Otherwise I have no additional bits of wisdom.

To survive this world you must be mad as a hatter. Luckily for me, I am positively insane.

With 27 laurels, I’d recommend saving them until you have been playing the game a bit longer and have a veteran’s sense of what you might want to acquire. If you really want gold now, Behellagh’s recommendation is the most efficient use: Heavy Crafting Bags are worth, on average, about 1 gold per laurel spent, a lot more than any other option.

Among the other things that require laurels:

  • Ascended amulets plus special infusions for them to increase karma gain (recommended), magic find (weakly recommended), or experience (not recommended). This is always one of the first things I do for an L80 toon.
  • Recipes for other ascended gear
  • Special nodes for your home instance, allow you to farm charged quartz and watchwork sprockets (among other things).
  • Unique tonics & minis.
  • Various rewards that were originally earned playing through parts of the Living Story that are no longer in the game.
