whats needed in orr vitality or tough
Toughness still applies against “magical” forms of direct damage. Direct damage covers any kind of damage source in this game. There are no divisions between “physical” and “magical”.
Having said that, Toughness doesn’t give any kind of protection against Condition based damage. Damage from any condition will eat you alive unless you have constant sources of incoming healing or lots of condition removal.
If you’re a flamethrower engineer who’s focused on doing condition damage, then I’m guessing that you’re not going to have a lot of incoming healing. In that specific case, I’d say that Vitality would probably work out better for you. Now if you were mainly focusing on the elixer gun / bombs in some kind of healing build, then I’d assume that you would be wearing Cleric gear (Power / Healing / Toughness) and my answer would be to stay with Toughness.
yea I have zero toughn ess and vitality all precision crit power and main is condition damage and precision stats. but im thinking soloing in or I need either tough or vitality. no I don’t do any healing hope to have monsters dead before I need muxch heallin
don’t most of the wizzardcs and necros and such bypass armor with conditions? if so would that not make toughness fairly useless in orr
Once again, it depends on your healing output. For example, my Thief in Knight’s gear (Power/Precision/Toughness) does absolutely fine in Orr thanks to my constant sources of healing through my venom procs and my “heal of crit” procs. While I do need to run a bit of condition removal, it’s really not a big deal once you’re in Exotic gear. (You can even do it in Masterwork armor, but it requires a lot more conservative gameplay.)
As an Engineer, you should have easy access to your Cleaning Formula 409 trait that wipes off conditions whenever you drink or throw an elixer skill. This should really give you more than enough condition removal if your dps output is respectable and you keep at least x2 elixer powers slotted. My own elixer Engineer uses my Healing slot as one of my two elixer sources, but any slot will really do.
Yet if you’re not willing to run a couple of elixers and Cleaning Formula 409, then your dedicated flamethrower build will have issues with condition removal. In that situation, Toughness is kind of danger for you to use since you aren’t wiping off conditions and you aren’t healing yourself. At least Vitality gives you the ability to soak damage from either source.
I use a lot of elixers will have to see if I have room for cleaning formula im traited alchemy, firearms and explosives
Well I have 5-80’s I take to orr. Among them I have a mesmer with high vitality and an engi with high toughness. For getting around, my engi does best between the two. In meta events, both are fairly squishy compared to my other classes. I also have a thief, a good balance, does the best of the three though still 1-hit by that champ giant is nasty. Best setup seems to be balanced, especially at meta events. For my heavy armor chars, well balanced, orr is a cake walk… though seems some stuff can still 1-hit you, mainly at the temple meta.
As for conditions, I don’t know, I remove them. I remove either by a class skill or by a purity weapon which I have one for each character among other sigil slotted weapons. Conditions are not as bad as being slammed by direct damage or launched 80ft into the air etc. But at least that can often be avoided with a dodge.
