It seems the price for legendary weapons are increasing. is it worth buying it off the trading post or should i stick with my ascended stuff? next year they might end up costing 5k gold. never can understand how so many people got these weapons

The expansion is going to introduce new legendaries and precursor hunts. This means that there will be less demand for existing legendaries (as the market will double) and if the precursor hunts extend to existing legendaries then they will be easier and cheaper to make. This means that legendaries will almost definitely get cheaper, even with inflation

Agree—wait, the prices are sure to fall when the exp comes out (or they tune up the rng to accomodate the outliers).

Regardless of what might happen in the future it is only worth buying a legendary if you don’t want to do the map completion to get the Gift of Exploration. Besides that if you can afford to buy a legendary then you have more than enough to get the rest.

Well… you say whether you should stick with ascended or not. You do know the stats are the same between legendary and ascended, right? The only reason to get a legendary is if you like the look.

Anyway, prices will likely fall when HoT comes out as everyone throws themselves at the new legendaries.

Or prices will rise because there is less supply .. and also prices of T6 mats may rise
if more people create Legendarys because of the new precursors .. or whatever.

Its mostly not so easy to forsee what impact that will have on the market, especially
since we don’t really know how grindy the precursor hunt will be and what mats
the new legendarys need and how they look, and if they are only for new weapon
types or also for actual weapons.

Yep, the market is hard to predict. New legendaries will probably use the same system as the old one, so Tier 6 and Ectos may go higher in price. At the same time, old precursor are dropping in price right now since ppl keep their cash for the expansion. But the market will stabilize as less and less ppl will use the Mystic toilet to get precursor. Maybe new legendary will be awesome and then nobody will want the old one and the price will drop. Maybe everybody will want to make the collection for a precursor and prices will drop or maybe there will be a lot of restriction and a big part of the community will still buy their precursor. Maybe the new legendary dagger will be ok, but not as cool as Incinerator and then a bunch of ppl that were waiting will make an order for spark, making the price climb. A lot of different thing can happen.

or the expansion could introduce only guaranteed precursors and legendary… armor that has nothing to do with current legendaries BUT uses the same mats on some level, which will crash the precursor markets but raise demand for the shared mats, causing any of inflation, deflation, or status quo on the overall price of a completed legendary.

Probably smarter to do everything but the precursor. Precursor prices will probably drop right up until the expansion launches. But as soon as it hits, everyone who can will be crafting new legendaries. Plus, you might really like the new legendaries.

I’d get all the mats and gifts ready, then see what happens with the expansion.

I don’t think it’d ever be worth buying a legendary. I bought the precursor but I’m making everything else.

But then I’ve actually enjoyed doing it. If you absolutely hate map completion or some other part of it (I think doing a dungeon multiple times for the tokens is the only other unavoidable part) it might be worth it.

If you don’t want to do world completion, dungeons, or collect obsidian shards.. And with all the wait a see speculation, prices are low. Those who expect the precursor crafting process (or collection completion?) to be inexpensive may not have experienced ascended armor creation or looked at the price of items like the Pendant of Arah. If it does get cheaper, will will be quite a ways down the road.
