Q:

what is the best way to contribute to world vs. world without getting blown up by a big group of players? the main problem is that you cant try to capture keeps and camps, and that I (for example) am not so powerful against a bunch of veterans(at least not yet…).

It really depends on what’s going on at the time, but there are a few things that will help out a lot.

Perhaps one of the most important things you can do is siege up towers, keeps, and (to a lesser extent) camps. While you’re running supplies to build, you can also make sure upgrades are queued regularly.

Cutting off supply lines by killing yaks can also put a lot of pressure on the enemy. The other night in Eternal Battlegrounds, I was part of a group of thieves that were killing all yaks going to SM. Four SM walls were down and the enemy was desperate for supplies. They eventually had to have an entire zerg (literally 15+ people) escort their yaks back and forth for a while.

In Eternal Battlegrounds, you can take Speldan’s solo with very little effort by luring the Aboreal Spirit to the camp and letting it do all the work. At the very least you will cause the enemy some trouble even if you don’t manage to take the camp.

Scouting an area helps a lot. It will be even more important after this next patch when it requires 25+ players to make orange swords.

You can take the NPC camps (ogres, quaggans, etc) by yourself too if you’re lucky enough to finish it before the enemy gets there.

Sometimes enemy cannons can be easily destroyed if there is no one around. It will waste some of their supply and give your allies safe passage through certain areas for a period of time. I wouldn’t go out looking for cannons to destroy, but sometimes they can be really annoying in high traffic areas (the road between QL and Durios is usually a good spot in EB to take out cannons if you’re blue). It can also be a good way to prepare SM for a takeover too.

Drop a piece of siege in the middle of a supply camp. The NPCs are programmed to attack it first and not you, be prepared to drop another if you’re not done … drag NPCs off one by one .. if you keep hitting them they’ll follow you and the rest will deagro. The guild claimer NPC is the one that is the toughest and will make the camp flip .. but you will have to clear out the other NPCs fully after you kill him.

It’s pretty easy to solo a supply camp once you get the hang of it.

Not sure if your saying your new to WvW? Id recommend you just join EB and follow the zerg. Make sure to keep up with the zerg. I roll a thief and specifically follow the enemy zerg and pick off the ones at the rear or when my allied zerg is about to run into their zerg I will target the middle of the zerg to distract them and then they become to spread at a bad point where our force comes in and they are too spread / in single file. EB is probably the most frequented place for pugs. The Borderlands tend to be frequented by experienced guilds.

Im not sure which server your on, but I wouldn’t recommend soloing a supply camp. You can do it, but at least on my server its extremely risky. People will react to it and come. If they get there at a bad time you will go down. Running with the zerg is the most risk free and rewarding way to play the game right now.

You’ve got a few choices.

Most helpful: Escorting yaks. Towers and keeps need supply. Escorting a yak means giving it constant swiftness if you can (make sure to find the best ways to do this for your class) as well as defending it from threats. You can also serve as a scout, as you’ll be able to call out if enemies are attacking the supply camp, tower, or keep that you’re moving to. This is probably the most important role you can do solo. It is however pretty boring, and if you’re constantly getting ganked by 5+ people and no one comes to help you, then you will want to murder your teammates.

Ganking enemy yaks is the second most important thing a soloist can do. Much like how your towers/keeps need supply, so do the enemies, and if you can find and take out yaks, then you’re denying them these resources. You can force enemy towers/keeps to be unupgraded, and deny them critical resources during your teams attacks.

After that is taking supply camps. I do want to make a differentiation here. Taking camps is probably more effective and important than listed, but only if you do it as a small group. Solo’ing camps takes time, and is very risky, there’s an efficiency and safety you get with a group that you wont get alone. Dying trying to solo a camp means youve wasted your time, and your life which could have been better spent in a zerg. However you can still solo the camps, and a quick ninja cap can really hurt the enemies supply lines, as well as secure potential points for your team.

NPC camps can also be flipped. The quaggans are especially good for this. Either destroying the power node, or gathering pearls, can easily be done solo. These quaggans will then run to nearby supply camps (which is a perfect opportunity to take it if it’s not yours) Same for the dredge, hylek, and ogres, but these are harder to solo cap.

Other than that there’s not a whole lot. The thing is, running around solo may be fun, but it’s not as safe, deadly, or efficient as with a small group.
