I think OP meant that it is easier to lose than win in solo q now. It is nothing else but a dice throw and it is hard to make a change in an outmatched scenario, no matter how good you are if you get f2p or pve players that have no clue how to fight or rotate.
This is why top players go duo with mesmer/thief/scrapper/druid duos most of the time, it’s the easiest way to semi-carry a match if the rest of your team at least doesn’t die in few seconds when you leave them to fight somewhere else.
The problem with F2P players is that mechanically, their class is weaker than someone who grabbed the flavour of the month off metabattle. Add to this the existing problems with skill, communication, etc… and it’s an easy lightningrod of frustration. Sometimes it’s not even unjustified, as core specs will lose to players of a similar skill on HoT specs.
Then add in free to play culture on top of that as well, and F2P players can often be a frustrating experience when they end up as PvP teammates in random queue.
I had a ftp ranger on my team that never left lbow and never had a pet out, probably because he didn’t even explore the world to unlock anything good. He admitted he was a ftp player. I’m not just guessing. This was in platinum 2.

Firstly – There is no need to flat out lie to make a point. It is not even possible to not have a pet out. You choose a pet at character creation. It is automatically out when you join the world. Even if you try to stow it, pretty much anything you do brings it back out.
Secondly – By your statement, you just made a case that vanilla specs can indeed at least make it to platinum 2.

Not really a reason, after the last patch there has been a lot of people playing core specs that doesn’t mean they don’t have hot or they are bad.
I myself hit legend playing core thief, so core specs or f2p accounts are not really a problem. The problem is that people are just bad with or without hot and that’s the only reason to not queue alone if you want to climb because you will have to carry 4 players instead of 3 if you duo.
