“You want to know my build? Oh, you probably never heard of it”

Being a hipster is a prerequisite to join 1v1 Arenas, nowadays. If you dare to join the arena with a well known build (except for a very small amount of them – I’ll talk about this later) you are a “noob/copy&paste build user/loser”.

Apparently, you deserve to uninstall GW2, delete your account and die alone in a dark corner if you run:

• Condition Mesmer (not PU, PUs aren’t allowed, mostly)
• Condition Necro
• Thief
• Condition Warrior
• Hambow Warrior
• Did I say thief?
• Meditation Guardian
• Spirit Ranger
• Who do I want to fool? Any kind of warrior, let’s be honest

So basically, in order to not to hear complaints like “spam more 3, phantasms noob, healing signet nerf op, medguard no brain, spam more fears, signet of spite OP” you have to run either S/F elementalist/Shatter mesmers OR a completely new, never used before, probably underpowered and stupid, build. Yes. These are the only builds that will not make people whine and complain about you, your build, Anet AND their life. Don’t you even DARE to join an arena with a build which is not one of those.

So today I joined one of these 1v1 dedicated arenas with my thief, using a new/strange build (25 0 30 15 0), definetly NOT in the current 1v1 meta and apparently I’m a “shadow art noob abuser”. It’s not like I dominated. I won 2 rounds and then I got pwned by a D/P (10 30 0 0 30) thief.

I can understand some servers have rules (thanks to god! Angz for example have some very useful and fair rules) but meh, I can’t even run the build I want, even if I’m following the rules. I don’t want to play either S/F elementalist nor shatter mesmers, so do I have to run a 14/14/14/14/14 build?

TL;DR
This is a thread to whine about whiners. Those “1v1 heroes” are mostly hipsters.

I usually get flamed for using alternative builds tbh. :p

The annoying part is when I hear an ele tell me I have more sustain when their build dishes out more healing. It’s like people can’t do maths and just blindly criticize without ever trying the build.

I’ve had someone tell me that armour of earth is overpowered once and that I’m being carried by it. Some people take the game too seriously and try a lot harder in 1v1s so just don’t become that person and enjoy the game with the build you want to play. I’m pretty sure they’re the ones losing out.

Meh… every decent build relies on a somewhat cheesy mechanic. If you win too much people will complain about you, no matter what build you run.

I usually get several /respec on PMs when I get on my Warrior, but that’s becouse I play GS/Longbow… although people rage and hosters kick me out with I start kiting around with my mobility… but, thieves evade spamming with shortbow 3, or reseting with shadow refuge, or turtling until withdraw’s CD is back up is totally fine lol :P

I think if you go to those 1v1 servers, you are trying to escape the meta, not exactly face more of the same crap mouthbreathing 1 button smash I win so-pro-e-sports etc…

The fix is to stop playing on 1v1 servers or make your own with your cute rules.

I dont even play (just watch) on those servers, just giving my thoughts

The game is not balanced around 1v1, if you rely on one overpowered mechanic that basicly carries you to victory then you will get flamed.
Normally noone even flames good players who play tourney builds, its the bads who just figure out some overpowered mechanic and try to abuse it that get flamed.
Like in your case you probobly used shadow rejuvenation as grand master trait in shadow arts, which makes good player unkillable in 1v1.

Exactly because of what you said here Eles and shatter mesmers (currently outside the meta) are the only “allowed” builds. But you can not escape the meta with only 2 classes available. Any kind of thief is op. Warrior is op. Necro is op. Medguard? Op aswell.

Well, have fun in those “only Fresh air vs Shatter” arenas, because that’s what you are asking for. Those are not 1v1 arenas. Those are Fresh air vs Shatter arenas.

The Ange server is usually populated by decent people. No matter the build, if it is allowed by the rules then people will not complain. Of course, sometimes there is someone with an odd build who seems to win every fight, but still, the atmosphere is usually pleasant and if someone starts whining the spectators will make fun of him.

I think the most important thing is kitten sbow. People quite rightly (imo) are irritated by seeing OP things in a 1v1 arena just cause there is nothing at stake there, its just for fun, so when someone comes along with a condi warrior or a phant mesmer it kills fun. Or in your case the Shadow Art thief is just annoying to fight and boring to watch.

These arenas let people chat and comment on stuff they are a good social place and like in games with friends if someone comes along with an OP thing you’ll give them stick for it (someone playing pure land destruction in mtg for example).

But its all in fun.

I care about that because I personally think that people inside those ARE the SPVP community. I don’t find Helseth or Sensotix fighting in Hot Joins, I find them in 1v1 arenas.

Yeah of course I care. That’s what “community” means. There are people who are known, who have a reputation amogst these guys, and I don’t want few hipsters ruin it.

If you find people complaining about lame builds in there the people who have reputations are normally first to shout about it – not the “hipsters”.

Known people in duel arenas are likely to be eles (Tom, Zuik) shatter mesmers (Coulter) or thieves. Occasionally hambow warriors but those don’t stay long. 1v1 relies on kiting out cooldowns and positioning well a.k.a huggin dat pillar. Cheesy tourney specs are not necessarily cheesy 1v1 specs and those people that win fights on conjure ele or condi guard always make me smile.
