1v1 Balancing
I think this is the reason you haven’t seen duels implemented yet… there are about 2 professions that are miles beyond any other in terms of 1v1, and as they’ve struggled to get 5v5 balance just right, I don’t think 1v1 balance will be on the agenda in the very near future.

1v1 is far from boring..But i agree that they won’t even balance this game for 5v5, 1v1 or whatever. Its not possible in a mmo.

Well that is true but it is not because of 1v1 nature. It is like that because whole balancing was done only for groups. I think 1v1 balanced fights can catch more players than 5 man tournaments.

Meh, I just can’t bring myself to play if I can’t hold my own in a 1v1.
gw2 is not balanced for 1 vs 1.
BM rangers and Phant No skill easy mode 1v1 builds =O!!! BUT USELESS TEAM FIGHT XD!!!
lol see the thing is that we need these kind of things in our 5v5, it gives not only optional build diversity but also can create diffrent strategies for teams.
Having a build that gives a guaranteed push off point will break stalemeates and draw focus away from the current major team fight points, without it games can become really stale and boring over time. Mind you these 1v1 builds arn’t very viable for most teams, since team fight abillity is paramount for a vast majority of teams.
I think balancing for a 1v1 should be more on the skill level, I mean these builds are strong but the real problem here is that they are just to easy to use for the “effort in vs power out”. Now I’m not talking about people calling thief easy, and shatter mesmer easy… Because to be fair they are about as hard as any other viable class which means they arn’t super hard to play (since nothing really is) but they take about as much skill to succeed as anyting else doing their job properly.
But since BM ranger needs to auto attack for most of his damage, and phantasm mesmer can put his fingers in his ears and go Lalalalala and they both are super survivability (meaning access to heals and lots of invuls doges) it really breaks the skill factor imo.
I don’t think they need to be balanced by being nerfed, and other things being buffed. But I think there needs to be something to make them more skill full. Giving more play against them, as well as with them.
I think balance 1v1 IS possible and having it still make sence for a 5v5 but tbh I really don’t think it’s going to happen, atleast not soon.
