Let’s see how Blade and Soul works since they also have world championship, and also, we can check that, after next patch, people would come back or not. so we can check our twitch viewer would at least recover 1000~2000 people level. Actually, it should be around 3000~4000 level to become at least smite level of esports marketshare : this means it would have possibility to become more famous if the game has 3000~4000 fixed number of viewers, we can determine it becuz we saw that smite hit top5 in number of twitch viewers during their world championship.
If either one of above two doesn’t work, i am pretty sure mmorpg genre itselt can never be success in esports market. In this case Anet seriously need to go like league of legends style that has no pve and no wvw but only offers pvp espurt, like smite online but with much more build diversity and much more classes and much more character customization that GW series traditionally offers, which smite doesn’t offer. Like combining GW’s special advantage with general esports ideas.
Anyway, if those 2 doesn’t work like an year later or 2 years later something, just forget mmo esports. Anet will soon decide between serious selection between two cases if it falls to be fail, that are,
1. Making the game to be complete esports oriented that doesn’t have pve or wvw.
2. Keep current business model but never pushes its players to be fascinated in esports or league stuffs. It makes players compeltely annoyed which results in making many of them leave the game when it fails.
But one thing that is absolutely right is that you can never say proudly that “i am PRO mmo-esports gamer!” right in front of real progamer who deals with games like League of legends. It just feels like being troll, you know.

Guild Wars 2 has great potential to be an Esport.
Too bad it’s combat is being managed by a balance team that keeps the game balanced around PvP, PvE and WvW. You got Deathly Chill, a very powerful trait in PvP yet completely worthless in PvE, fail much balance team?
Don’t get me wrong, I personally believe the game can be fun and balanced with all 3 modes in mind. I also personally believe I can balance and make combat more fun significantly better than ArenaNet as I can foresee dumb crud like that won’t be healthy

Hahahaha
Guild Wars 2 has great potential to be an Esport.
It does have potential, but the management is flawed. They need to hire better balance and marketing team, as well as learn how to communicate with their playerbase.

from my perspctive is that the problem lies in the existence of pve and wvw ruins pvp balance.
If it becomes like fully pvp oriented game, there wouldn’t be such problem. And also existence of pve stuffs kinda ruins gw2’s pro-esports-game-wanna-be wish. It is just my guess tho.

This game has few pvp players really, if the game can attract more people to play this game only for pvp.. the game will be successful in e-sports.
GW2 HAD potential, pvp got neglected for way too long time, pvp and pve balance wasn’t separated and done by people that have literary 0 clue.

Pretty much this.
