yay just waiting for the update where the map changes every say 6 hours hint hint
It blows my mind honestly that we can’t just have random maps or even a different map everyday. Every other game has been able to generate maps randomly it can’t be that hard.

They think that having random maps would cause teams to run more generic / more balanced builds.
Of course this is absurd since most people only play one class and the only build that won’t be run is the ranger that ran orbs real good. They’re in a gw1 mentality since gw2 ‘builds’ are way more flexible than gw1 builds were.

I would imagine they can’t figure it out, why else would you force players to run the same map 7 days straight.
Please put these in randomized maps.

An arenanet dev made a post about two-three weeks ago where he said that they ’’don’t yet have the feature to randomize maps’’
So no, they’re just absolutely incapable developers that can’t add something that exists in atari games.

In the last SOTG the topic of randomized maps came up.
They brought up concerns about not wanting players to feel forced into running generic builds (these concerns remain baseless)
I relayed that sentiment here only because people wanted the dev reason.

I’m aware, that was their excuse for doing it the first weeks, but it’s still here. It’s not to survey the meta, it’s because they genuinely don’t have a random map generator.
The wording was around: ‘’We recognize that players want some more variety, however. So we’ll either introduce different tournament entries with different map or switch the maps more often’’
ggwp.
From what they said they can’t do random maps atm because of the way they created the system in the first place. They probably never thought about the feature of “random maps” because they liked the 3-round tournament system.
Just relax, they probably have a lot of stuff to do to make it work, but it’ll happen eventually.

THANK YOU first and foremost Tyler + developers for implementing this change. It is a step in the right direction and I appreciate ya taking the time to post this in the forums. Hopefully this will eventually lead to a random map generator further down the line, but you guys are slowly (verrrry slowly) making some of the much needed changes we as a community desperately need and me and my team thank you!
I think this announcement is generating some negativity at the moment ONLY because this was a change that was asked for by the community over a month ago. Why was this not implemented in our “PvP Update” (ya’lls words, not mine) in Febuary? Yes, I understand a new map was released in Feb and that you guys wanted to show off the new map for a bit but after that why did we have Temple for a whole week?
While we as a community understand you guys have a lot on the “to do list” atm, I think a lot of us who have supported you guys since BETA cant help but feel that this long “to do list” is a direct result of virtually nothing being done to address our primary concerns with PVP since release. Changes like this, which are both common sense and widely popular, REALLY need to be implemented faster……
We get that you guys are afraid of killing the PvP community by rushing a feature out to soon but ya can’t kill that which currently has no life….

Their “excuse” does makes sense, though. Look at GW1’s random arenas: how many players build around flags? Who many made build around auto-resurrection? Pretty much none, because those maps were random, and wouldn’t always pop up. Playewrs had to use a generalized build for them all, and weren’t allowed to adapt.
A random map system would mean that any depth that would come from building around the secondary objectives, would be negleted. That’s cool for casual/ hotjoin (which already cycles maps), but generally, it will only emphasize more the builds that are already meta, by destroying the niche builds.
Is it possible to figure out how to fix/rework the tournaments so that they can work with a random map generator? Otherwise obviously this is great, and its a step in the right direction. But so far it’s only been steps, and not strides.

But make us a random map generator though!
Yeh obviously we want random map generator. But this is a huge improvement and is something that shows they are listening. Personally I enjoy whatever map we are playing and then get bored around saturday time each week. This will prevent that.
For me this is the best change they have done in the game. Thats how big of an improvement it is. It has doubled the speed the maps rotate and has halved the boredom from running the same maps over and over. Random map rotation is the next step now and I look forward to that. But in the meantime I am fairly content now. 3 days of the same map just feels soooooo much better than 7 days.
Good work from anet though…they do listen for sure.

“Generic” builds in gw1 were known as “balanced” but this does not necessarily mean that the build was balanced. Running honorbalance meant that you had 2 warriors, 2 monks, one runner and 3 midline. Those 3 characters in the midline could be any combination of rangers, eles, mesmers, ritualists, paragons and necros with a lot of variety coming from multiclassing.
These “generic” builds were generally considered honorable (since they weren’t all-in or cheesy), but they didn’t have to be balanced.

Why no random map yet?
If you are not be able to make a random map generator, why ur job is developing videogames? change it, NOW !
Balanced was made to handle everything. It was like playing part rock part scissors part paper at the same time. But individually each player’s build was highly specialized.
As said, it’s a step in the right direction. If its not too much resources to use, a daily rotation on the map would be even better. Twice a week is certialy better then weekly though.
Sucks like hell. Bring back spirit map.

Simply shows the priority of pvp in that game.
If devs are concerned about people running ‘generic’ builds why not add build templates that people can switch before the map starts, that is of course if there is a random map generator in play.
Hey I’ll even be happy if they add raid on the capricorn to the tpvp mix, as long as they remove the underwater part of it (maybe make it solid ice or something). I actually think it’ll b a good small deathmatch type map.
This is the kind of kitten I’m talking about when I’m saying that your transparency is kitten, Tyler. So you were unable to deliver the map switch in time, fine, but why wont you tell us that in advance and why?

They’re looking into it. They can’t you tell that yet, but soon. It’s in the plan.
For your information, they did switch map friday… too bad they put Forest of Niflhel again. :P
Makes no sense to switch maps to …. the same map again. Whose genius idea was that?!
As annoying as it is, like other people I’m shocked theres no random map selection in tpvp. At least give people the option to queue up and have a checkbox on which map they want to play on, and then if enough people queue for it have the game start.
Surely it can’t be that hard, pretty much every other pvp game has this option!

I gotta admit, i like it. They picked the only maps i like….and the rotation is fair, could be a tad more often…but i am liking it atm.

I’m happy as long Foefire is not in. It shouln’t exist a map where you can overview all nodes just from one point (graveyard)
Wow very disappointing. Not only did you skip one of the best maps “Foefire” you are putting spirit watch again. I hope this means you fixed all the terrain bugs and OP tank running.
Can’t imagine why people like Spirit watch or Khylo. Best maps by far IMO is FoeFire, Temple and Niflhel
