Greetings ArenaNet,

I have been playing this game for 200 hours+ now and have loved every bit of it, but after hitting level 80 and doing a couple of dungeons/tournaments/spvpv/wvw, it is starting to become very repetative and more of a grind. I am not the only one with this problem many of my friends/ people in game have told me the same.

I believe that the main problem in this game is that the game lacks rewarding/ ’’fun’’ endgame content. Pve is basically a token grind and pvp is a rank grind.

- In pvp we do not have any ranked matches were you actually get rating from or anything to show ur skills off with. We only have the spvp and the tournaments which both give nothing more but rank(which is basically showing that you have farmed allot of spvp) and pvp gear sets which are really just for the looks.
On top of that the only gametype you can play is conquest in both these pvp modes.
Where are all the other pvp game modes? Where is capture the flag/team deathmatch/king of the hill.
Even a free for all just for fun would be amazing.

What I would also really enjoy would be a sort of assassination system where you could for example: buy an item (maybe buy this at the order of whispers) which allows you to kill any player in the world but killing innocent people will place a bounty on your head which anyone could then claim. (this idea can obviously be worked out in a more appropriate matter.)

I really believe you could draw more out of the pvp experience in this game than what has been implemented now. And I’m not even thinking about the upcoming GvG.

- As for the pve part, I believe you should seriously consider implementing extremely difficult 10 man+ dungeons with only boss battles (huge bosses/dragons) and very few events/trash mobs.

It feels really rewarding to kill a big dragon that took days to master the mechanics of and be able to slowly progress through this dungeon, rather than having 200+ people standing half afk/auto attacking one of the most detailed and amazing looking dragons I’ve seen in a long while. I think the huge dragons at the meta events are now totally being degraded as they are now and are considered as random free loot chests rather than frightening creatures.
On top of that these dungeons would make the meaning of having good gear more important because then any little bit of extra damage/healing/etc. could be gamebreaking. And maybe the rewards for these dungeons could be just the achievement and perhaps titles and/or rank symbols, which we have in pvp only then for pve.

Conclusion:
I really hope something will be done with the pvp as well as the pve in this game as I’m seeing more and more people leave this amazing game, because of the lack of end game content.

I don’t know whether or not these ideas have already been recommended or not (probably have), but I would really like this game so much more if it would have any one of these aspects implemented.

I appreciate your attempt at suggesting stuff to improve the game, however I think that you’re going to be dissapointed in the main because you seem to want systems that GW2 is trying to break away from. E.g. 10 man raids, gear grinds, open world pvp that allows griefing.

I could go on about specifics but I really think that you need to re-evaluate what you think you’re going to get out of this game as contrary to your beliefs, a lot of people love this game and its systems.

I really hope they add a 2v2 / 3v3 arena style death match that you can enter with friends.

Even if it had no ranking/rating system and even if there was no rewards or honor gain it would still be better than sPvP. All i want is to play some fun small deathmatch games with my friends, It can’t be too hard to implement right?

I really hope they can implement these ideas because I really feel that more and more people are leaving this amazing game because it lacks the endgame content.

I mean at least have different game modes in the spvp games. I really hate having to constantly focus on capturing bases. I want to kill other players and learn how to combine spells efficiently with other classes.

Also, for me as a pvper I have nothing to do in the actual world of guildwars. All of these quest areas look amazing but there´s nothing else to do but do quests or farm mats or get better gear through meta events which can only be used in pve.

You have to give us a good reason to go out and explore this world while still having something fun to do and I believe having a PK system implemented can really make the world more lively.
I want to be afraid that any second I could be assasinated and have to be on my guard.
I mean even if they don´t want to do this because they don´t want people to be hindered from questing by grievers, they can just implement something like :
-You can only attack other players who are level 80
-You can only attack players who turn on that they are willing to participate in outdoor pvp (yes this is from wow but you can obviously improvise on this.)

There are many more methods of controlling this concept and i really believe that it wil bring allot more life in the world.

I really hope more people will support these ideas. Cause I really can’t see anything wrong with them. On the contrary, it will only help bring more variation in things to do in the game.

Just 3v3 would blow my mind and i’d probably spend ages in it happily raging at my enemies and allies.

I dont care much about the other things. Did they not try Capture the Flag internally and decided it didnt feel right for the game? I probably agree with them but ofcourse i have no way to know for sure.
Too many different brackets always brings the danger of diluting the playbase too much. But i certainly wouldnt cry if 2v2 and 5v5 where added. And hotjoin turned into 5v5.

I’d also like some special dyes to be put as a reward for pvp, preferably after matchmaking is properly implemented as a sort of ‘look at my shiny armor, you cant just grind this kitten yo’. And ofcourse the stupid mandatory blue/red colors removed from pvp.

I’m going to repeat a post I made a few years ago over on mmorpg.com (which site I absolutely do not recommend or endorse) on the subject of open world PVP, as it represents my last word on the subject, and it seems relevant here. Some minor edits.

“I want to be afraid that any second I could be assasinated [sic] and have to be on my guard.” —paraphrased, supra

No one likes getting ganked. No one. It’s not fun, and if you say you like open-world PVP because you have to look over your shoulder constantly for fear of dying unexpectedly, then I’m inclined to call you a liar.

But rather than do that, I suppose I can concede that, perhaps, for a certain segment of the population, the threat of ambush, at least as an abstraction, adds another element of gameplay. Maybe, for whatever reason, rational or not, you’re someone who just likes having to occasionally make … let’s say “tactical” decisions (e.g., running away, logging onto a main, crying to your guild, quitting for a few hours, etc.). Because after all, this isn’t really about just wanting to grief the hell out of the other guy, right? Of course not; it’s the thrill of always being in jeopardy. For those of you who bemoan the absence of open-world PVP because it takes that thrill away from you, even though I don’t understand, my heart goes out to you.

Well, if you’re one of those people, I know you must be pretty upset that people can’t come and insta-gib you during your leveling efforts in GW2. But don’t write the game off yet! Even though it looks like right now open-world PVP is off the table, I think that if we all work together, we can come up with a meaningful remedy for this breach in the community. I’m going to suggest to you a way that I think you can still experience the thrill of constant danger that comes from open-world PVP that you’re looking for, without ruining the game experience of the other players. Remember, this isn’t about griefing people, because I know that’s really not what this is about. You want the thrill of the risk, right? Well don’t give up on GW2, because I think I have a solution for you.

Peace and safety.

Get a cat.

Now hear me out! I know what you’re thinking: “But, X! Cats are messy sometimes, and you have to take care of them, and they’re not even in the game!” I know, I know, but just consider what I’m proposing here. With a cat (or if a cat isn’t feasible in your life situation, you could also get the same results with another small pet, such as a ferret, or in some situations, even a baby or small child), you can experience all of the meaningful opportunities to be ambushed and instantly slushified that you’re missing from open-world PVP. Think of the possibilities!

Your cat will jump in your lap sometimes, and when it does, you’ll be distracted at just the right moment from whatever you were doing. You might find that you suddenly have to run away from a PVE fight you were winning. You might just narrowly dodge something that would have certainly killed you.

Sometimes your cat will jump on your keyboard, causing your character to run in circles or spam meaningless abilities at no one, just like if you were crowd controlled in open-world PVP. Your cat will walk in front of your monitor and simulate status effects like blindness.

Your cat might vomit behind you, and cause you to even have to get up and leave the computer altogether during a meaningful dynamic event, giving your poor character no opportunity whatsoever to respond to the threats of the environment!

In fact, if you’re lucky, your cat might even chew through your computer cables and cause all kinds of calamity for you! By the time you get that mess straightened out, you’ll be dead for sure! It’s a perfect simulation of an open-world PVP encounter.

With a cat, you’ll constantly be looking over your shoulder. —your real shoulder! What could be more immersive for the hardcore open-world PVP’er who always wants to be on his toes? You’ll live in constant fear of the possibility that your cat might ruin your gaming experience and that of your friends through its nefarious hijinks, and there will be no escape for you from the ever-present threat of cat-induced character death. It’s a perfect simulation of the thrill of open-world PVP: you have the constant threat of instant, catastrophic avatar life failure, and responding to the cat threats requires the same amount of in-game skill as 99% of all open-world PVP encounters with none of the nasty drawbacks, such as ruining the play experience of someone who prefers to game cat-free.

So get a cat. I promise, if you’re just looking for an extra thrill to your gaming experience, or you just want to make things a little more challenging for yourself, a cat will enhance your gaming experience at least a hundred-fold. If that’s still not the level of ever-present threat you’re looking for, well, you can always get more cats. And while your character is in perpetual danger of instant, unavoidable death, you won’t be inconveniencing anybody else except for your friends. It’s a win-win!

If, on the other hand, what you’re REALLY looking for is an opportunity to make the game miserable for other people without their consent, then GW2 is indeed not for you, and we’re glad to see you go. >)

Peace and safety.

First of all what the hell man… read my second reply.

Second of all thats the only thing you commented on? One of the ideas that can very obviously be finetuned to not influence the people who don’t want to be influenced by it?

I appreciate the bump but you just wrote 2 whole walls of text that made absolutly no sence and the only conclusion I could draw from them was that you really love cats.

They don’t have to implement that idea just like that, they can just make it exclusively for people who do want it, by for example: allowing you to turn outdoor pvp on or off or to just let it affect level 80’s.

There are plenty of ways to finetune this, just think for yourself how this idea can actually be made into something fun instead of just thinking that I’m some …hole who wants to go around ganking people so therefore this idea is bad.

I didn’t comment on your other ideas because they’re easy, and while I’m sympathetic that you might be a relative newcomer to the game, you didn’t do your due diligence in considering the possibility that all of your suggestions have been hashed out (to oblivion) during development and the beta; accordingly it’s hard for me to rule out the outside possibility that you’re just trolling. In any event:

  • They’ve already stated they’re working on PVP ladders and a ranking system.
  • 5-man explorable mode dungeons represent the most difficult content in the game; they’ve stated before that they do not intend to support dungeon content for larger groups.
  • There is a hard cap on stats, and they’ve stated they don’t intend to implement anything resembling a gear treadmill, no matter how marginal the stat increases.
  • Capture point PVP was chosen as the format because it’s the easiest to balance, and having only one format makes balance analysis and decision-making easier (e.g., a professions can’t end up OP in one format, UP in another, and thus unbalancable).

As for your second reply: You’re speculating that you can come up with an open-world PK system that’s consensual, fair, not susceptible to griefing, etc. You know what that sounds like? WvW. The fact that you don’t get to do that on top of bystanders is a deliberate choice.

Notwithstanding that, though, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, and pose you a few questions that I’m sure you can answer:

What do you do with level scaling?
What about players on the edges of a level-scaled zone who might cross a border or fight on a border?
What about players who flag only in optimum circumstances in the presence of other flagged players in order to ambush them (e.g., wait until a flagged player is low health in a PVP encounter, and only then flag to kill him)?
What about players tea-bagging other players to provoke them to flag?
Can you flag on or off any time you’re out of combat?
If you can, what about players who abuse that system?
If you can’t, what about players who are denied the ability to PVP/not PVP based on whatever restriction you put in place?
Should flagging have a cooldown (it might prevent these abuses, after all)?
If it should, how long is the cooldown?
What about players who abuse that system?
What about players who are restricted by the cooldown but no longer want to be flagged? Vice versa?
What about players abusing terrain or training mobs onto other players prior to flagging?
What about players who report players for things in PK?
For that matter, spell out the rules for PK with respect to player conduct towards other players.
What about trash talking?
What about armor damage from defeat?
What about players pressuring other players to opt-into the system?
What about players ostracizing players who have opted out from other content (e.g., can’t find a dungeon group on this server because I won’t flag)?
Should players have rewards specific to PK? What are they?
What about PK loot? Same as WvW loot? Different?
Does that have consequences for the game economy?

Had enough? Answer all those and I should be ready with another twenty or so.

The point is, open world PVP hasn’t been included for a whole litany of reasons, and personally I think they’re all good reasons, and I don’t think the players are going to come up with a better way to solve all the problems than ANet did. Just because you slap a consent switch on it that players can turn on or off does not absolve you, the developer, of the responsibility for dealing with all the fringe cases and freeing the system of any potential, however remote, for abuse, unless you’re willing to concede fairness, community cohesion, and accessibility in favor of player liberty and the griefing that comes with it. ANet wasn’t willing to make that concession, and many of us think it was the right call.

Peace and safety.

Ok man I’m tired of these long nonsence posts. I mean when you asks questions such as, what about trash talking , it clearly shows that you are not making these post to actually try and come up with reasons why it shouldn’t be implemented. You are just making them to create an illusion that you actually know what you are talking about by just creating endless walls of text to tire me out and having the final say.

Well let me just say that this wil be my last reply to you because I am sick of having to talk to someone with whom I can’t have a discussion, because it doesn’t matter if they are right or wrong they will continue to defend their statement just to make sure they are never proven wrong even when it’s quite obvious that they are not making sence at all.

I mean there is no freaking way that you can’t answer those questions yourself… are you kidding me?

First of all wow already implemented this system and it’s working quite well.
If you want to join in on outdoor pvp you can do this, if you don’t you will never have to worry about outdoor pvp ever, because that button which turns on outdoor pvp, can simply remain untouched. ( It has a cooldown of 5 minutes, once you press it you have accepted to take the risk of being grieved/camped/ganked whatever. Not happy with it? Don’t press the button.)

Second, when people use the environment to create an advantage in outdoor pvp which is ruining your precious gaming experience, you can just go ahead and…. click on that magic button again and you are back to not having to deal with it ever again.
Using the environment is part of outdoor pvp tactics and if you are a victim of it you should’ve thought of it yourself.

This option can be implemented and whatever problems come along with it can either be handeled appropriatly by Arena Net themselves, or you can just go ahead and turn the option off. It’s only for people who want it.

Some other questions such as : Armor damage….( ok how about none?), PK loot? (no…it’s for fun.), Rewards? (again do you understand the meaning of the word fun?), players reporting other players for things that might happen? (uhm.. ok…maybe ban? maybe no ban?) Can’t find dungeon because I wont flag? (Sense, this questions makes none.) No longer want to be flagged? (too bad jimmy, don’t touch the magic button, you are gonna have to wait for the cooldown), Waiting for someone to be low on health before flagging? (Don’t be low on health when flagged. It’s a risk you are willing to take when pressing that button).
I’m just gonna stop here because these are all pointless questions which you can answer yourself if you would take 2 minutes to think.

Now I must commend you however for asking one particular question which did make sense and which could make implementing this idea difficult.
Level scaling:
Even though this might be the only issue that could be somewhat problematic, it could still be fixed if you would take some time to think about it.

For example: you are not able to leave an area when in outdoorpvp combat and you cannot be attacked by players outside of your level scale. Only people on the same level scale can attack eachother. This would make it possible for new players to also be able to participate in some a..kicking.

Now I am going to sleep and I seriously mean this, I do not want any more criticism from you. I mean seriously it’s sad to see someone hate on an idea just to hate it, when it will never affect them at all. I mean what reason do you have to not want this idea?
It doesn’t make sense.

Anyone else who can come up with some good reason why this shouldn’t be implemented feel free to post about it. But my discussion with you is over, the only criticism I want to hear now is from Arena Net themselves. Without backup from them I wont take anything you say seriously.

Stopped reading after the personal insults. Sorry you can’t handle my criticism. You’re the one lobbying for something; you have the duty to make the case. I tried to be entertaining, and then I tried to be logical, and that got me nowhere, so now I’m just going to be blunt: It’s not in the game, and it’s never going to be in the game. Tough break. If you’re not happy about it, play another game. That’s all.
