3 Man Team - Composition Advice Wanted
you can’t really form a solid 3-man strategy simply because you don’t know what the rest of your team comp each game is going to be.
so really you’re just asking people what synergizes well and the answer is cover your weaknesses
i don’t know your guardians build because you say its a hybrid… but every build has weaknesses. is it mobility, sustain, CC, condi clear, DPS, or something else? figure out what his weaknesses are, and add a class that covers as many of those as you can. Then look again at what weaknesses your duo has and follow the same process to add the 3rd class.
solstice pretty much sums it up. You can’t go wrong with a good d/d ele or a thief. Guardian has pretty average mobility so you want allies that can turn fights around if they aren’t near you right away. I’d say ele, engi and thief would be your safest bets from my personal experience.
Bad Elementalist
Thanks guys. While I understand the info I gave is a little vague, I appreciate the advice. Solstice, you are right, covering weaknesses is very good advice, and yes I am looking for good synergies. Maybe I should have worded that better, apologies.
Builds can be changed, so really I guess I want to know if there are any professions that synergise well with each other better than others. I will of course still need to see what works best for our team, but any ideas or suggestions people can give here could still be extremely useful.
Thanks for the profession suggestions Frowny, I already use thief myself so that one is covered, and I also use engi from time to time. Would you say the DD ele synergises better with the guardian than other profs, from your experience?
The guardian will mainly be geared and built for sustain, to keep points as long as possible, with asistance from one of the other team members, who can focus on bursting down the enemy. So I guess a DD ele could work well there.
Thanks again for the feedback.
If you are picking 3 professions specifically for pvp, guard-mesmer-thief is still a great trifecta and back-bone to a team comp. While this kind of comp has taken a back-seat recently to brawlers, it still works well if you guys are good. The synergy here is that the thief/mes are a combined gank squad to take down anything quick. The thief also then gets to protect the mesmer from enemy thieves. The mesmer has portal to overcome the bunker-guard’s lack of map mobility and get him into teamfight situations. In the teamfight, your guard provides the needed on-point presence, gives out stab for stomps, and gives the condi-clears that the thief/mesmer need while they dps.
Thanks Blackbear. We will try out this comp next time we’re on together. I must admit the portal mesmer is not something I have tried yet, but would like to see what we can do with it.
I have been thinking of going guard and engi on points, with either thief for roaming or mes for the portals.
For PvP: two node holders plus a roamed or one node holder plus a pain train.
For PvE: all roll for DPS. For dungeons, you need one super sonic extremely elite damage and offensive support of the elementalist. One extra party defensive support could be from guardian or mesmer. The last one, stealth service from a thief is much more valuable than banner warrior. Either thief or engi fills this role alright.
For roaming: mobility is king. Medi guard, thief, engi, war, ele are fine. To some extend, ranger and mesmer.
In general, my favorite comp would be guard-ele-thief, guard-ele-engi, mes-ele-thief.

thief in my opinion is not good for going in 3. I’d prefer 3 professions that could try to make different roles … an engi or an ele for example , can defend a point or support teamfight and obviously warrior . If you go in 3 and you get another thief or another burst profession it can be hard. An other strategy can be to play different professions … for example , if i play a burst class and a point holder class, in the minute before the match start i can look at my team composition and switch to rebalance my team
