You and a guild are setting up a 5v5 in the middle of legacy of the foefire, best out of 5, winner gets 100 gold.
What would be your ideal team comp?
I’d probably take
1 MM Necro (many AoEs will hit the minions instead of the other people plus its harder to target with a cluster in the middle)
1 Condition Necro (The blinds, chills, cripples, poisons, weakness, fear, etc, is invaluble to a team comp)
1 Ele (Doesn’t matter too much if it is D/D or uses a focus-based build with scepter, they provide a lot of combo fields, lots of condi removal and auras, boons, heal decently and have decent CC)
1 Engi (Preferably a condition based engineer, but they have great support in terms of the heals, turrets, can give others boons and they can cause confusion which in that case can be spread through epidemic, they are pretty tanky and survivable and can deal with conditions themselves pretty well)
1 Guardian (A guardian provides additional heals while being a great meatshield who can provide buffs like stability which the necros have almost no access to, and can give periodic aegis to everybody which is important in preventing focus fire and themselves can focus others using the ring of warding on the hammer)
Or 1 Mesmer (A mesmer provides amazing utility in terms of null field, feedback, stealth, clones, ethereal combo field, etc and are very survivable. Can also provide boons to teammates while wrecking havoc with confusion, in which the necros can spread).
Unfortunately, this type of fight may be difficult for a thief because stealthied or not AoE condition spam is not their friend, they lack AoE themselves, it would probably be hard to focus one target down without being focused themselves and Thieves need a lot more open space to operate around. It isn’t necessarily that the thieves are underpowered, it is just their strength lies elsewhere.
A warrior in my opinion doesn’t bring anything to this fight that other classes can’t cover. Maybe Hard CC, but that is easily mitigated by blocks, blinds, chills. They are unfortunately one of the easier classes to focus down many times and being reliant on mechanics that are clunky many times, it would be hard for them. For it to possibly work, the team would have to be built around survival of the warrior.
A ranger could probably find its way into a 5v5, perhaps through the use of spirits, traps, entangle, etc. They have many evades using the sword, are highly survivable if specced and would be a decent all-around support-DPS/support spec for any team comp.
