Q:
6w - 4L different outcomes.
Player 1 legendary last 4 season, 60% win rate. Gets placed Silver t3.
Player 2 highest was ruby. 57% win rate. Gets placed Gold t2.
Both players solo Q first 10 games. Both got at least 1 top stat in all 10 games. (If I’m not mistaken)
I really want to understand how the system works, and why is there such a difference?
Anyone knows why this is a thing?PD: if a player leaves at the start of a game and you end up 4v5, shouldn’t count as a loss.
It’s the W/L ratio. I went for 5-5 in placement matches landed at t3 silver. And My initial MMR was the mostly the same with ESL players.
Your tier from last season means absolutely nothing in this season because S4 tier was not tied to rating. You could have been a 1000 rating player in legendary last season and a 2000 in Sapphire.
Placement is based on the ratings of opponents you played and the outcome (win or loss) more than anything.
You have to remember everyone did not start with the same Mmr as each other. They soft reset Mmr using this formula.
(Previous Mmr+1200)*.5
Then factor in the wins and losses against what Mmrs the opposing players had and boom you have the reason for the disparity. There isn’t a problem with it besides how heavily the placement games weigh on your overall mmr
So going into the placement matches it doesn’t matter how many wins you are or what division you were the last four seasons since Divisions S1-S4 =/= Mmr they were completely separate.
I hope that helps.

6/10 won (rifle/gs bersker no less) and I placed one win under platinum, Stickers ;D
You’re slipping in your old age : D
In Uncharted PvP placements (which the new system reminds me a lot of btw), placement matches arent so much about wins/losses, but rather your personal performance during those matches. Winning matches certainly helps overall, but all those match achievements? That’s what the game is really looking at. End game scores (offensive score, support score, etc).

The first matches of the 10 placements are more impactful than the last ones. Consider the first 5 matches are trying to fit you in the grand scale of things and the last 5 doing small adjustments.
That’s my guess anyway.

Placement games have a large portion of luck in them, but if you place too high or low then over the season you will gradually move to where you belong.

The problem many are experiencing is that they are moving VERY VERY VERY VERY slowly. I know I hit gold and only get 14 MMR per win atm. I had horrible luck with my matchmaking teammates and now climbing is a chore almost with how much i’m getting per win. Wasn’t bad at 27ish per win but now it’ll take a LONG time to just climb out of gold.

Yes i agree. But the season is long so your rating now doesnt matter.
I trolled my placement games and started with a rating of 900 after my placement games. My rating is now 1700 after about 60 games since the placement games.
If you are really rated way too low (as i was at 900) then you will win almost every game for a while and rank up quickly even if its only 15 pts per win. With 30 wins you can gain 450 points that way.

I am 6/4 as well and I placed silver tier 3. Only made ruby for last pvp season. Don’t quite remember my exact win rate for it but it was hovering around 57%-60%. Now working my way slowly up to gold tier 2. And yeah, winning seems to have mild MMR gain atm. Only got like 19-30 MMR per win so far.

I hit gold in 28 or 29 games. Had 3 losses due to teammates again not properly playing, but i’m moving forward now. The fact you’ve played 60 games since the beginning of the season is concerning.
