Q:

So why when there are 5×5 spvp servers developers still thought it is a good idea to leave 8×8 servers, that, while being in the top of the list, promote zerging and discourages most of new people to try out pvp, since it is hard to comprehend what happens in such a massive battle?

A:

Because this game doesnt focus on sirious PvP at all.

In my opinion only reason we have pvp at all here is because Guildwars 1 was so strong at PvP and if they didint implent pvp here many questions would rise and smack them to the ground. Thou it looks like they made maps and that mode in 10minutes.

GuildWars 2 is good game with bad management.

I decided last night that I have a lot less fun in bigger teams. Am going to go into smaller ones for now on.

8v8 is more fun. Zerging makes you lose since you would only be able to hold 1 point at a time.

Because game producers don’t want casual or first-time PvPers to feel pressured or uncomfortable. In an 8v8, a first-timer can follow his teammates and try different skills without really needing to contribute much. In a 3v3 deathmatch, if one player is new, his team is at a serious disadvantage.

Another reason is the game’s overarching principle that you can join or leave any activity at any time without consequences. Whether or not it creates good PvP is up for debate, but that is the official principle for the entire game.

All that doesn’t mean that 8v8, no-strings-attached hotjoin is healthy. I personally think it’s awful, because it’s become all glory-farm/zerg and no actual playing. However, there were good reasons the developers decided to go with 8v8 hotjoin at launch.

5vs5 does non stop baddies from leaving games when losing; 80% of times I try 5vs5 it always end up being 5vs4 or 3vs4, the majority of people prefer 8vs8 so they can hide behind a huge zerg and for majority I mean casual players

I think every reason for 8v8 was terrible.
New players get carried more in 8v8 which ultimately means their own inadequacies are not highlighted to the same extent, slowing their growth.
Having 8v8 in itself means that 5v5 rooms get filled up less. That’s 6 people who could otherwise be filling up a 5v5 room, no wonder they end up being 5v4 or 3v4’s for such a long period of time.

Having 8v8 alienated the spvp experience from the free/paid level, which goes against what they were hoping for anyways, it’s not a gate-way. Now they’re stuck with it (unless they radically remove it, and that’s likely to cause more unrest).

Hell 8v8 in itself wouldn’t even be bad if it was another format, but you’re built around moving around points, why are you saturating the area?

The great forum duppy.

This games SPvP is a joke, just look at the maps and the game mode, they aren’t trying to balance the game around 1 v 1’s but then they put in an SPvP mode that forces more 1 v 1’s to happen their by just heightening the fact that they’ve sucked at balancing so far. Their stance on “well we want to make small changes so as to not scare away the competitive community” seems to have completely back fired… maybe they’ll figure out that they need a more competitive game mode, not a higher entry barrier to their competition a.k.a. paid tournaments… who knows I’ll hold out till the January/February patches that they’ve said will be even larger than these past few, but i’m not going to hold my breath… don’t see a reason to anymore.
