A Good PvP Class?
Most of the classes are good in spvp – but since you are planing to play wvw, that is not really a pvp, but more like zerg vs zerg, or zerg vs doors I would suggest taking a class that has strong range attacks (aoe would be better), so an engineer, elementalist, ranger, warrior maybe, did not play much wvw because it is the least skillful “pvp” in this game.
what about for spvp and tourneys?
All classes are viable for tourneys, I would suggest creating few classes that you think are interesting, go to the mists, test few builds see what you like and play that class. In tpvp I only use a necromancer, for spvp fraging: necromancer, thief, warrior.
Guardians, Mesmers, Necros, and Thieves are the ideal classes for tPvP in general.
I tried a few classes
I kinda like thief but I have a hard time against ppl because of my squishiness.
Guardian for me was pretty great other than the fact that I found that i could be too easily kited by several classes even though their heals were awsome
I also like mesmers however when i tried them it seemed very strategy focused and though i like strategy when pvping relying too much on it causes me to sometimes make errors and loose the fight.

I lol’d.
Thanks for that, good way to end the night.

you are welcome.
However mesmers in my opinion are the most strategic class in the game and it requires high level of skill to play.
I might go with thief due to the fact that i like their dps. I can look past the squshiness.
However did they get nerfed recently? I heard something about that. Can anybody clarify please
Only backstab thieves were nerfed during the last patch – one ability lost 33% of dmg in pvp and second one that you do not really use (throwing dagger) got 50% dmg reduction. Backstab thief is a build used mostly to kill nabs in spvp, not the most useful build at tpvp – you have no toughness or vitality, go only pure dps and burst is on a 45 sec cooldown. Some stronger builds were not nerfed, like a bleeder thief or a dazer.
Actually mesmer is probably one of the most useful classes in tournaments, since they can create portals for team, so you can get a lot of people to the other side of the map in seconds.

IMO the biggest nerf was changing basilisk venom to a stun. That was very useful even in tournaments because you could take out a basically invincible opponent from behind with no chance of a stunbreaker.
sooo
in overall pvp which would be spvp, WvWvW, and tourneys which would be the most potent class?
Messers or thiefs?
Thieves if you don’t have a team to group with. Mesmers if you do.
You do not have to have on class for all – simply level up a thief, to go for wvw, since his cluster bombs and poison aoe does a decent dmg. You can use a mesmer for tpvp, and both of these classes in spvp.
Also if you like competative pvp, trust me – wvw will get boring VERY fast, there is nothing do to, just run around in big groups, autoatack the door for 5-10 minutes, capture some fort, then run some more and repeat untill you meet an even bigger enemy zerg then you either die or run away to nearest fort.

WvW is fun if you are involved in the strategy of what is going on. If your just running around blind, kinda boring.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
A dagger/dagger elemental is very strong if played well – lots of mobility, cc, and survivability with the right build. I would suggest doing some pve with it first though to familiarise yourself with the attunement switching mechanic.
This is another ‘strategic’ class though so if you disliked mesmer because you had to think too much this might not be for you. Do yourself a favour and try it though
From everything I’ve read, whilst Thief is good in killing people in WvW and casual PvP, they don’t contribute to team play as much in organised PvP.
Whereas mesmers seem to excel both in killing people as well as contributing to their team. Mesmers apparently suck in PvE though

mesmer is much easier then ele due to his high defensive potential, if he dont think he can play him well, i dont think he could play ele

Necros are difficult and more like counters to bunker builds more than anything.
Mesmer, Guardian and Thief are faceroll OP in certain builds. Both in sPvP and tPvP.
Necro is broken. Try that class out.
