I was a relative newcomer to the GW1 PvP scene. The game had been going strong for 4-5 years at the time. I remember the rank system in PvP was something like r80 is now. Unachievable in any short time frame.

Did that make me sad? No. What happened then? I viewed those who had achieved high ranks as awesome. As dedicated. Did it mean they had better skills than me? Most likely, but not necessarily so. Did it mean they were superior to me? No. Did it mean I was resentful that I would never reach their ranks? No.

Did I grudge them their status? No. They earned it. I would be honored to be in the same team as them.

It’s like growing old in real life. Does it mean every old person is wiser? No. Does it mean they’re better than you, more privileged, or superior to you? No. But old people get a certain voluntary respect due to their years. We open doors for them, and more or less defer to them. It’s not forced, it’s not legally required, and many people treat them exactly like everyone else. Which is how it should be.

GW2 is an MMO. We play for character progression. That means a character that has been around for 5 years needs to have something to show for it. We don’t want everyone who has six months to have all the titles/minis/benefits that us old timers have. It’s our due. We earned it.

So please Anet, PvP is not just about skill. I don’t want a title that will vanish when I leave the game and come back 6 months later any more than a PvE character wants their legendary to vanish. I made a choice to get a high rank in PvP at the expense of losing achievement points in PvE. Because I thought my effort would not go waste. How would people like it if everyone with 10k achievement points magically reached 25k all at once? Not good. Because that wouldn’t be fair.

Try and understand where we’re coming from. Our characters don’t age or grow old. Our virtual clothes don’t tear. We need other ways to show we’ve been around for a long time. That we’ve put in the hard work. Our bodies are not scarred by PvP battles. So we need virtual scars.

After all, if a soldier receives a medal of honor in combat, they don’t take it away after he or she has retired do they? They don’t say “Oh, you’re not in the leaderboards any more”. No, a medal once given for distinction remains.

Just like our titles/minis/ranks.

I had a phoenix in GW1. I am 32.5k away from shark (I will have it in few days). And I don’t care at all about everyone being a dragon. I don’t mind, I am looking forward to playing fun matches against the different people rather than always same boring teams.

I just want to enjoy active PvP.

I was a latecomer to gw1 pvp too, I for the life of me never found a team to play with and in gw1 I only wanted to pvp, it was always rank 40+, which I wasnt even close too, and the teams I could assemble obv never made it past 2 consecutive games. Wasn’t much fun.

Ranks in GW1 went from 1 to 15. Rank “40+” did not exist.

Skyhammer farming it’s just an excuse for those who couldn’t reach higher ranks in time, most of r70s now were way above 55+ and even 60 BEFORE skyhammer (If you want there are videos from 1st italian tpvp tournament long before skyhammer and i was 52-53 already), i’m actually r68 without farming, just around 3k+ HOURS IN PVP since first day of gw2 with more than 4k tournaments (2k pre ladder and 2k after) and around 10k overall matches…the majority of sh farmers were unranked pve heroes who farmed their cool finisher to show off in wvsw or some other pve crap. And you know what? Someone being rewarded with dragon at r55 is gonna be even worse than those idiots who farmed all day at skyhammer cause at least they put time in it. Oh and just for you to know 90% of skyhammer farmers stopped at bear so rewarding 55+s is gonna reward farmers even more as i already whispered to grouch. I’d like to see all those pve guys if one day anet states legendaries are too hard to get for poor little new players giving everyone free legend weapons while you actually worked for it (And keep in mind that getting a legend in pve is a joke compared to r60+ in pvp) Anyway i’m waiting for my first account to get out from ban in 2 days (Anet feedback censorship ofc) and then i’ll come back to forums with a question for all of you, for the whole gw2 pvp players. Ok, bhagwad if you deserve to be special so much then post screenshot of your PVP statistics, lets see how many team arenas and solo arenas youve done, or at least how many Top Stats you have earned. Who knows maybe you have been afking in hotjoins for your rank.

You don’t get anything from reaching dragon rank. Shiney finisher? So what? I don’t even know what it looks like nor do I care. They could have put it in gemstore and people would have overrracted as well.
Funny how so many cried for it to be achievable and when they make that happen the same people cry that now it ruins their game.
P.s.: I’m not even rank50 yet and won’t reach it probably. Gonna focus on other games and invitationals (no ranks awarded for those) and all the PvE heroes can show off their fancy finishers. It won’t make them a better player than me. Oh yeah and ofc reading this forum is always funny.
