Hello fellow pvp-ers,

Let’s talk about pips (once again). While it is a good concept to foster competitive play, more often than not, pips cause more frustration than it is warranted. Take an example of a very close loss. Even though you tried really hard, your opponent won by just a few points. As a result you lost a pip and can’t feel good about having a really competitive match.
So here is what I would really like to see. If a losing team is above a threshold point X (maybe 450, can change based on testing/design), then they don’t lose a pip. If they are below that threshold value, they lose a pip.
This will accomplish the following things -
a) Foster more competition even when losing a match just so that one doesn’t lose the pip. It is a very powerful motivation to keep you going.
b) This will discourage people from being afk in losing match because that would ensure a loss of pip.
c) Allow players to enjoy a really tight match regardless of the outcome. (maybe the winning team can be awarded a bonus pip for a job well done).

Some restrictions need to be placed so that it is not abused. For example, this should only work if your team is not a full premade (to not allow premades farming pips against another premade and vice versa without some penalty). I don’t know if queue syncing works in this game, but this would address that.

Please share your thoughts on this and if you have a better suggestion regarding pips, please share that as well. Please don’t start rant about matchmaking, because we can’t really address that in this thread

My motivation behind this post is to make ranked more enjoyable across the board.

I think the pips should also be tied to personal performance during the match. Things like your KDR, points decapped/capped, uptime during fights, length of defense on points and such. Maybe have the top 2 people on the losing team not lose a pip if their match scores were above a certain threshold.

Why not just do away with PiP system all together?

MM works now so it puts teams of similar rating against one another and with in the same PiP area. Ive literally had to wait 10 min to be in a match where everyone on my team is sapphire and we are basically fighting a all ruby team.

This does 2 things, why am i partied with these people when i am in T3-4. Were we expected to win or lose?

Ive also had games where i was on a team full of rubies against 3 diamond players. The PiP system makes no sense.

Its time to create a actual league system so players can see where they rank. A real leader board, a real Guild team rankings.

For example, in S1 i made a post because i was in the last tier of diamond and i had to face Team PZ (4 out of 5 members) 4 games in a row. They were all legendary as i was trying to walk in. Im ok with this overall but not ok with it stopping me from getting into legendary when i simply logged off and got it the next day vs other diamond/ low level legendarys.

Guild ranking example, S1-2 I and my guild team consistently played the season. We got 26th S1 and were 12-9. The teams above us were 4-1, 5-0, 3-1. We were like that is odd, season 2 we were in the top 30 with a 10-5 record with teams ahead of us 2-1,-3-1 records.

So in season 3 we waited till the end of the season and played 3 matches got 3-0 and made a top 23 guild team. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

S1 & 2 we put in more time, better games vs better opponents and we lost out to people who did next to nothing. We figured out Anet system and did what we are suppose to get a Gold Guild trophy for the guild hall.

A real system for PvP. Lets cut the pips because they are a horrible way to judge anything.

The thing LoL didn’t implement that GW2 needs to implement is fater climbing for player that contribute more to their team. This pushes good players and carry players out of the lower ranks quickly. It also provides an incentive to try harder. likewise. Players that contribute nothing to their team should climb 1 pip at a time per win. This way Toxic play decreases and the skill brackets are more clearly defined. Furthermore, they should not gain extra pips on comeback or win streak. Only extra based on performance.

1). Give extra pips based on performance
2). Stop giving extra comeback or win-streak pips.
3). Allow the dropping of Diamond to ruby and legend to diamond etc.
