The question is: Does anet still aspire to AAA Esport, or have we thrown in the towel.

If weve given up then anet and this community can continue on.

If were trying to fix this though… we need to change.

First: We are no esport. The money in this project has drawn some attention, but our twitch viewership points to the truth of it. Truly. I think were losing to the sims right now. I know d3 is beating us by leaps and bounds, and that was the fail game of the decade. (apparently less fail than us though)

Second: The game needs deep and fundamental changes. The kind that mean PvP isnt linked to PvE for balancing. That was promised and talked about, have we abandoned that?

Third: If the devs nod to these two things, that they are still in it to win, and that they are willing to consider large scale changes independant of pve… than we the community need to be constructive and give them a round of good suggestions again. I think opperation tear down their egos so they listen has succeeded. we can stop… i think.

There are myriad amazing suggestions throughout the SPvP/profession forums. Anet doesn’t have the manpower to have somebody see them all and forward them to the team for consideration, and many of our ideas do not coincide with their design plans.

I doubt this game will ever become an esport, but it can at least become better than it currently is.

The first thing they need to do is facilitate an increase to the general sPvP population. Fixing rewards would be a great start.

ANet still is going for a AAA esport. But anyone who is being entirely realistic with themselves (even those in ANet) realize that “big-time” competitions are at least a year down the road, but most likely further.

I am guessing 2014 we will see the competitive scene pick back up after rewards are changed and balance gets more ironed out, and then maybe 2015 is when we actually see big #eSports coming in.

The need to MAKE THE SPVP SECTION FREE TO PLAY! That in itself will draw more people into the spvp area of the game.

Rewards to draw people into bad PvP isn’t the solution.

First they need to make gameplay fun, then they can worry about bringing people in and fixing balance. The gameplay still isnt fun yet.
