ANETS idea of "Favored" is abysmal
I think you may be interpreting this incorrectly, you may be have been favored does necessarily mean your teammates were also favored.
As someone who does PvP both solo and on a team, i’ll give you my view on VoIP.
It’s not needed.
The only thing one needs to improve is basic teamwork. IE not falling victim to common misconceptions like (dont push far) etc.
There’s a very good quote from another product. It’s better that all 5 players follow a bad call than give 5 different calls and react to the enemies playbook.
Same thing with GW2’s arena, only the best part is you only need your minimap and UI to determine how to appropriately act.
Are voice coms nice ? Sure, but they are far from game changing. In fact most of the teams you talk about probably are sitting around on coms cracking off jokes instead of making actual calls.
If I use VoIP with my friend we both play better, survive and kill more. Probably because we are both not very experienced in pvp.
I am on guard with hammer and he is a staff ele so it is a big advantage to call out waterfields. Even if I only blast once everyone else cant miss the visual cue that now is the time.
his oh kitten, kitten, kitten is also a good pointer.
I agree however that it is not needed for basic movements. But it is very important for infight calls and calling him back to help me with a 1v2. I can tell him before the enemy arrives on point and shows up on the mini map.
is or can that be game changing? yes !!

lol VOIP isnt needed???
Tell that to the tournament winners. Communication is an inegral part of TEAM pvp.
Not everyone has the aptitude to type and play. I mean if it was that easy to type and play, theyd make VOIPs outlawed in tournament play.

It seems to more likely tha VoIP improves an already organized team, it won’t help against randoms because they are under no obligation to use a VoIP.
So yes VoIP works for actual teams. So go form a team.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
If 5 random people are to fight a premade, TS wont help much. Good players know exactly what to do. The maps are pretty much the same and won in the same way every match. GW2 already has a couple of tools for communcations such as map ping and draw (plus chat of course).

Wrong…
I invited 4 randoms a few weeks back. We all got in my TS. We went 9wins 1 loss. And we fought 3 full premades.
Whether they were a bad premade or not is not the point. The point is I had a 5 man all randoms we grouped and used TS and dominated.
Since the first part is gibberish imma address the teamspeak part.
People who wanna use voice com don’t go all “aw man I wish I could use my mic to talk to these people but I can’t cuz no such feature in game!”. No. They go download the kittening teamspeak, mumble, skype whatever.
As for pugs. It’s hard enough to make them type stuff. It also opens up a lot of verbal abuse potential for which anet has to take responsibility if they provide the communication service themselves.
Are there really many five man versus all solos where the solos are favored? Is this what we are saying here you were put with all solos versus a premade and the solo’s were favored? If it did happen I agree that should be extremely rare. An outlier maybe? If this is happening a lot they need to start giving groups of three or more some secret sauce extra rating starting at 3 man group and escalating up to 5 if it doesn’t already exist. Five experienced solo players should be able to beat 5 noobs though there is a reason they are noobs and that won’t be fixed by VOIP. But the vast majority of the time solos should not be favored to beat groups of 3+.

This happens actually. A LOT of soloers are either even with or slightly favored in one direction or the other. Why? Because there is a premade buffer % that adds to their MMR. Say 5 solo Q’ers average together for a team MMR of 500. They can be put against a full premade with an average team MMR of 454. Now this matchup should be a 50-50. Yes they have coms, but you are better players. The system take a party and adds 10% (i believe) to their MMR to search for a comparable team.
So with their team average at 454 the system is actually searching for a team around 454, or a random group of players (5 solo/ 3-2/ 4-1) with an MMR of 500. This is all in perfect situation standards of course…. If it can’t find it, it will get the closest thing it can find (not always that close). So yes, 5 solo Q’ers can be favored over a premade and that is why they win against them sometimes. Said party of 5 (at 454) can’t find a close match-up around 500 and the closest thing is a group of 5 soloers at 550 together. This 5 solo team WILL be favored to win and should. Communication will not help the premade of less superior players.

If that is the case (and I really hope it isn’t) this system is absolutely terrible. You win and lose as a team. Every player on the team SHOULD get the same amount of points for a win or loss. If not this ladderboard most certainly favours low MMR players who will either end up getting points for losses or getting 3 points for matches where they are carried.
I haven’t looked up any of my teammates to see if the points are assigned the way you say but if they are that is really stupid.

“It won’t help against randoms” I guess you’re new to competitive gaming so ill give you a pass. That or you’re trolling pretty hard.
Give me 10 human beings. Ill sow shut the mouth of your 5 and ill keep my 5 with the ability to talk. Guess who wins? Heck ill even give you 5 players which know each other. If the mmr is even like you forum knights like to boast, then my team WILL win. Sorry but that telepathic communication you heard about on sci fi isn’t actually real.
VOIP will solve nothing, it only takes one bad player not listening to screw up the entire game.
VOIP is NOT needed in regular matches. Why? Most people won’t even use it.
Now, as to the issue of premades fighting pug teams, that is just an other example of the failed matchmaking system that we currently have.
VOIP will certainly help any team, no matter if they just met or been running together for years. Even if only one person mic’s up and the rest listen, that will make a difference.
VOIP greatly enhances the team performance, and would be a lot more fair if the game has this device implemented by default -specially more fair in conformed vs pugs matches-.
But we must be realistic here:
1) Integrated VOIP would be expensive to implement, and PvP is one of the parts in this game which provides the least earns to ArenaNet, due usually the players focused on competitive PvP doesn’t care as much about fancy skins or PvE commodities.
2) Taking in consideration how badly the netcode sometimes performs in this game -specially here in EU- and that VOIP chat weights a lot more than the vector data from the matches one can only guess HOW LAGGY could the game run if over the current features it would carry an extra layer of real time 5 vs 5 talk in every match.

If an old outdated game like LoTRO can implement in game voice…i certainly think a new game with an abundance of resources can.

It all about resources in business. They could but why would they? The fact you are here QQing and not playing lotro ( yes u quit and are playing smite, which doesn’t have it either) means it isn’t important to the audience. Let me put it like this. VoIP would not significantly help gw2 PvP. Teams will still use their own voip, so get a team or don’t play.

My opinion is that VOIP would improve PvP. But if you want to play PvP better you have to get an organized team, so it’s simpler and better to use 3rd party software (which already exist by the hundreds).
The real problem would be in large scale battles (WvW and World Bosses). If we already suffer a ton of lag there, I think it would lead to servers being overloaded because of VOIP.
It’s better to use 3rd party software to avoid these problems.
Flipping your camps since 2014 :3
Please feel free to chime in on this thread discussing the benefit of voip for GW2. We are particularly looking it its use for PvP, however we have addressed several of the concerns discussed in this thread already. To participate in the discussion just follow this link.

Well first of all no one is QQ. If you think its a QQ thread you need some sunshine.
As far quitting Lotro, yes I did PvP is dead. Voice comms were/are very important in that game for 12/24 man raids and especially in PvP. They were an integral part.
Smite does have voice comms its called Curse, 99% of people have it installed(that ive played with) and/or use teamspeak.
Do you even research anything before you post in forumz????

O my, an internet tuff guy.
You should probably learn to read tuff guy. VoIP is only really effective when people use it, I played enough games to realize that a lot of pugs WILL not use it.
So all your ranting is pointless. If you care about PvP as much as you pretend to do take the initiative and form a team or not. It doesn’t make that much difference to me, I enjoy reading your angry tuff guy post.

Funny, a majority of pugs I’ve played with have no problems hopping in TS when asked. Maybe its your glaring charm that wards them away. Although to be fair, Ive only played 4k PvP matches. Im no pro like you.
I await your next misinformed, unresearched…posting from the hip response. You realize youve done a complete 180 from your original postings??? Probably not.
