About ProLeague and the balance updates
They did have about 3 weeks to change/ learn other builds however with the current balance more changes are needed. And if they hadn’t changed the balace because of the esl league we would still see near invul ele’s (by the silly amount of healing/protection uptime they had) and chronomancers
I thought the same yesterday.
They did compete on the pro-league with the old meta. Now with the patch, the meta is broken. Teams need to rework comp. So, team will not be the same. The finals is there with a new meta… completely screwing up hard work to get there.
Balanced patch should be after the Finals and Challenger Cup. Each balanced patches, should have minor balanced fix each week while people try to find new meta comp.
Then, when the balanced is good, they should start up the new league system and the pro-league.
Actually, the balance patch is not made at the right time and they seems to not “polished” those after a week or two of abused of the new cheeze coming out of it. It would be better to get those balanced patch on a test server (competitive will scrimmage there anyway to try them). So, at least our balanced patch can get a level of polished we don’t have since released….

they’ve said that balance to the game takes priority over the tourney’s. tourney is more of a marketing effort. they try to keep them relatively in sync but whole game > ~20 people
I’m sure they’d have preferred to wait until after the finals, but balance and gameplay was so awful they couldn’t help but patch early.
The few Pro League players being forced to evolve meta builds and alter playstyles around frequent balance patches was an interesting experiment. In Pro League Season 1, it’s revealed teams with poor ability to create/adapt to superior builds and not invest enough time in researching how build/class tweaks affect matchups.
For regular ranked season play, I think balance patches are essential to roll out ASAP in order to nerf highly efficient PIP farming builds that carry players past their depth, even in high level divisions.
So as I see it, fast balance patches are hard to consider a bad thing.
