Academy Gaming will be helping you pass the time before Heart of Thorns a bit more quickly next week by hosting a Stronghold Tournament on Monday, October 19th, for both North America and Europe.
Per the usual, we will be awarding 2,000 gems to members of the first place team, with 800 gems going to each member of the second place team. In celebration of the upcoming Heart of Thorns launch, we’ll be giving a llama out to every member of every team that participates, regardless of placement.
The tournament begins at 10:30am Pacific (19:30 CEST) for EU, and 5:30pm Pacific for NA.
The first 16 teams to check-in 60 minutes prior to the tournament will secure a spot, not necessarily the first 16 to sign-up.
The livestream will begin approximately 45-60 minutes after the tournament begins at http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2. Jebro and Brunners will be hosting the EU event, with Storm and Heurix hosting NA.
is this 8v8 yet, are archers useful, did you shrink the map, why is there a treb, or is there less PVE?
a lot of us are finding SH boring in the 5v5 format. in fact, most experienced pvp’ers stopped queueing for SH during BWE3 and took their elite specs over to conquest. out of 25 games i played that weekend, only 3 were in SH before i got bored.
i hope this feedback is helpful in some way…i’ll probably watch this tourney to see if it’s at least more fun to watch than it is to play.
Ya agree with the previous post..a lot of my guildmate hate stronghold….its more pve then pvp. Its like lets see who rush the boss faster it will just be like skyhammer, spirit watch and courtyard ppl will stop queing up. Can the developer wake up
Cool that you guys are making such tournament. I might show up.
Were there any changes made to the game mode though? Asking because we haven’t really had any update for quite some time now afaik and there are still problems like Archers or respawn timers. Or will such changes be coming with launch build?
I just don’t understand why we don’t make more maps like Foefire. honest to god, that formula just works the best with gw2. we all like that map the most. if you just changed up the environment to a different theme, and varied the bosses (i.e. so theyre not soloable), it would make a lot of people happy.
it seems much resources and time have been sunk into SH. so be it. I feel the mode would be so, so, sooo much more fun if we had 8v8’s or 10v10’s on it. as things stand, the map is depressingly barren, uninteresting and it takes way too long to get back in the action. not to mention the mechanics that are in place are flawed (i.e. archers, rushing the boss, etc.)

Basically this. Also, the last stronghold tournament we had was boring beyond belief. I doubt this will be any different.
llamas for everyone! that moment when you earn something and find out everyone gets it at least everyone already has one! stoked anyways, LET US REV FOR THE TOURNEY!!

To be really honest, I believe Stronghold is actually the map that requires some thought. The reason why people probably don’t like stronghold too much is because you cannot zerg from point to point. A good stronghold team requires much more map-awareness and communication between team members:P
Map awareness?…I would say who can rush boss the faster…most of us had already express the dislike to this map. Sh can ready be a fun new pvp map but developer choose the pve focus route in pvp map. Anet should ready change the person/team who is designing the pvp map from skyhammer to spirit watch and now strong hold all fail map

Rush boss…
Have you even tried playing it against or with any decent players whatsoever in like past 4 Stronghold beta events, or are you stuck in April?
Two people can hold off 5 rushing lord right at start and vast majority of my games in last two BWEs, even soloqueueing, was more than 10-12 minutes long.

I think I would like foefire better if the boss wasn’t soloable, make it so that there is more risk for going for the lord. As it stands though its not my favourite map. I like Temple and Nifhel best, and their mechanics are quite similar.

From my perspective (I’ve played in Every stronghold tournament, even the exhibition matches) in high level play, Stronghold is absolutely amazing. It is incredibly intense to be fighting and defending simultaneously and requires much thought, strategy and skill to win games against advanced teams.
The problem, the actual spectating and shoutcasting of a Stronghold match is a challenge and if done incorrectly can lead the tournaments to “look boring”. I think, in time, as everyone gets acclimated to it, it will be far more enjoyable to watch. The spectators will need time to play and experience it first hand to really understand what the teams in the tournament are doing and the shoutcasters will need to get accustomed to new techniques like double streaming to capture two lord rushes that are happening at once.
Stop hating, and be a little patient, the devs have put far more into this than when we asked for capture the flag (spirit watch) or team deathmatch (courtyard), I’m sure it will be great
