Guild Wars 2

Hey!

I just have to say I love the PvP in Guild Wars 2!

But I think there is a lack of choises. These is for example no way to play PvP in smaller groups like in Guild Wars 1. Back in GW1 I mostly played Team Arena and Random Arena. I think this it would be awesome to be able to play the arena in GW2 aswell!

I would like to have a choice of 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5. And to this of course leaderboards and different temporary titles which tells everyone how good you are.
Example 1000 rating: Arena Warrior, 1200 rating: Arena Fighter and so on. Maybe also unlockable armors for different rating.

Maybe also adding the Random Arena from GW1 aswell…

Please tell me what you think about adding a Arena for smaller groups!

2v2 arenas always bring me back to the days of season 5 world of warcraft, where all you had to do was play a deathknight and you’d be granted the gladiator title for absolutely no effort. GW2 doesn’t really have the balance for a 2v2 arena either, but I could see 3v3 possibly working.. (Altho dual necro + bunkerguardian mirrors would be dull after awhile).

How about adding 2v2 just for fun. Then there could be special titles for 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5.

2v2, Brawler based: “Fiercy Brawler”, “Mighty Brawler”…
3v3, Fighter based: “Fiercy Fighter”, “Mighty Fighter”…
5v5, Warrior based: “Fiercy Warrior”…

If the 2v2 is unbalanced we could just have it for fun and practice, leaving the leaderboards only for 3v3 and 5v5.

The each class 1x should be implemented in tpvp as well. (At least if the trait lines match, 2 of the same class should not be paired in 1 team).

I do not think the ban is a good idea although it did me LOL.

2v2 and 1v1 will be near impossible to balance in almost all games so I would really like a 3v3 but conquest game style will not work. Deathmatch (first to kill and point based DM both) will work but the map sizes/stealth have to be adjusted for this. They can make small maps and add other interesting game modes such as mine cart (from TF2) or hold the line (forgot the game. The mode is basically stopping your enemies from reaching your base).

In fact, I do not know why they have not put in more game modes in the normal tpvp, conquest turned into what I always feared it would. Bunkers and AoE all around lol.

Well, no.
I’ve got 2 gladiator titles from season 3 and 5 in 2vs2 as druid/rogue and priest/rogue aswell as reaching duelist several times between season 2 to 8.
However I’m not sure what my max was and since they’ve revamped the system several times I’m not actually sure which system you would be referring to as you know, you used to start at 1500, then you started at 1000 and now you start at 0 I believe. But it is probably somewhere around 2600.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the arena in WoW, it was incredibly unbalanced simply because the game is not balanced around PvP but I still found it immensely enjoyable.

However it was definitly not much of a show of skill unless you ended up fighting mirrormatches.

And resilience would be an awful addition here, in WoW they had to include it because they increased the damage significantly with the launch of new expansions, this lead to the damage getting out of hand and as such resilience was added to counter that, you do not have that issue in GW2, in GW2 it is more a choice of wether or not you want to be a berserker glasscannon that either kills someone in 5sec, or dies in 3, or if you want to be a bunker that never dies but most likely never kills either.

Absolutely, fun is good.

As for the profession limitations/bans for a potentional 3v3 arena? I gotta say that sounds horrible, people should be allowed to play it any way they so choose.

It is only to help level the playing field against fotm specs. It should have been implemented in WoW as well. It is stupid as hell facing 2 classes with the same spec (fotm) and get wrecked for no reason.
Ofc, WoW had diminishing returns to minimize this but since GW2 does not, 2 classes of the same spec (terror necro/bunker guards etc) simply should be paired on the same team.

You know I can’t really think of any game with a proper 4vs4 arena right now, whereas I can think of several with 1v1,2v2,3v3 :E

I enter my free tpvp ques in under 1minute most of the time. I really doubt having a separate que will “break” the community. Players will alternate game modes to avoid getting bored which in the long run obviously helps the game.

It is also annoying to people in said team. I run a d/d semi bunker and I really get annoyed when a mirror ele pops into my team.
2v2 and 1v1 is just impossible to balance. Devs should know that by now. It does not matter if you have a “dps/healer/tank” game or you have a “self reliance” game. The variables are just too complex. 3v3 and 5v5 are the best examples of easier balance.

No, its just that real men que in ODD numbers. Trolling aside, balance is easier for 3v3 and 5v5. 2v2 is stupid imo.

Thinking about the good times I had with WoW 3v3. Managed to get duelist title (2100 rating) so I am nowhere near awesome but it was still a lot of fun.

Right until blizzard decided to shove a kitten up their game’s kitten and care about subs rather than the state of their game.

Deathmatch is more casual friendly than conquest for sure. It’s easier to figure out a game mode that only involves fighting, rather than one that involves fighting as well as macro scale movement.

However, since we don’t have it, here’s a fix for those who want it:
Get a custom arena.
Change the respawn timer to 2 minutes, individual.
That’s it.

The only way to win on a map like that is to stick together, because if you split up to cap and defend you will just get zerged down 1 by 1 and be out of the fight for 2 minutes. With the 2 minute timer, the team that wins the first 5v5 wins the match. There you go, TDM.

Splitting the community works as long as the gamemodes to que for are totally different.

Free and paid tournamets weren’t workig because they were basically the same.

But a deatmatch/conqeust split would work.

As much as people like to bash wow pvp and wow in general the arena system was and still is one of the best pvp experiences i’ve had.I would like Guild Wars 2 to adopt something similar.

fortunately you can pay money to convert to gems to buy the custom arena starter kit to make this arena, and then pay more gems to keep it active.

I agree with you. Honestly if wow had a big graphics update i would go back to it…anet is too hung up on conquest. Wow had it all and an insanely competitive ranked arena ladder. Rated battlegrounds were a blast too…anet could do so much but they are simply stubborn. I cant wait until blizzard comes out with their new mmo titan…too bad it is years from now
