Guild Wars 2

Conquest isn’t a bad game mode, but it should not and can not stand on it’s own. The game mode is heavily focused on capturing bases, while “ninja-capping” is incredibly easy, it makes the actual PvP combat something of a liability.

Then there is the “Secondary Objectives” that’s unique to each map, but it is still Conquest and it doesn’t nearly solves the issue that it seems to have been designed to solve: A lack of variety! Conquest doesn’t only provokes too little actual PvP to be a stand-alone Game Mode, but it doesn’t provides enough variety either.

I am no developer, but I will add some suggestions that would solve the issue, mostly so that people won’t say that I’m “just another complainer”.

Capture the Flag – Either mash that those stealing your flag or help stealing theirs. This is a game mode that requires strategy, but also more than enough PvP-skills than you could ask for.

Arena Deathmatch – Your team versus theirs. However, add in some flavor – Traps, changing terrain etc. just to provide some extra depth. Add a Guild Version to encourage you to play with guildies, maybe for some additional Guild Influence. An actual Rating system could add to this reward with some Guild Rating, all to honor your guild and to build it stronger.

On another note, the reward system is dull and just not engaging. If you where to work towards an item then the journey, in this case playing PvP, becomes a lot more enjoyable.

I highly doubt that 1v1 would ever happen since ANet has said that the PvP isn’t balanced around that format, which also means that casual duels won’t be directly supported.

dueling arena. no objectives, other than to kill the opponent(s)
limited duration, allows draws.
smaller maps featuring different terrains
must be grouped to enter team dueling

Something for the rest of us hot join heroes so we can play the builds we want and still smash face competitively instead of havin to conform to this bunker conquest crap…

Oh but you guys forget that takes development resources… which are much better spent on snowball games in Lion’s Arch.

It would be the biggest homage to your GW1 PvP fanbase you could offer. You’d probably bring a lot of players back who have went back to GW1.

I would rather have GvG than “WoW Arenas”. (though TBH Conquest should have been GvG from the start)

I’d personally like to see Capture the Flag, Arena 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5, and a guild war system.. not the system from GW1. Something more along the lines of the guild war system from Ultima Online or Tera.

For the guild war system, one leader declares, other leader accepts, after that you are locked into the war until a certain amount of points or time is reached (3-5 days), and you can war multiple guilds at once.

The worst thing about gvg in gw1, is that it wasn’t accessible. One thing that GW2’s pvp, for all its flaws, is much better at.

In a game with a decent amount of PvP content, guildlocking some high up competitive PvP isn’t a problem, especially when you can be in 5~ guilds.

But yeah, GW2 doesn’t really have even close to a fraction of the PvP content needed to make that happen.

First, what I meant is that GvG would be the same thing as the “XvX” formats, just that it benefited the Guild itself as well. This would probably mean that the “XvX” formats that are played without the Guild-Component would be equally challenging, rewarding and viable to play.
