It is brutal out here in PvP for a pimp. :P

Seriously though I play two professions Necro and Ranger. I am new to PvP and enjoy it immensely. I have watched videos, I have meta builds that work for me, I know my rotation. I go where I am told if I am not stun locked. But there is always someone it seems we all suck and he/she is the god. Few matches ago I was called the worst “hunter” (thought I was a ranger)by someone who had no kills and no top stats at end to my top offense and my 5 kills.

However there is something going on when I was almost top tier silver now back to top tier bronze. 46 games ranked played 17 wins. That seems terrible. Some matches I die once and sometimes just completely trapped to death by guards. Thieves I can take 1 v 1 most of the time. Fighting on point hard for ranged. GO MIDDLE! I get there and no support. One thing I have watched is people swapping toons before match. I will say I dislike that option. Throws off matching maybe?

It’s hard out here. Rant complete but hopefully someone can add insight. A few of those losses was my failed attempt at Mesmer..yuck..no ty.

When you are new to pvp and start to play ranked you start with 1200 MMR. That’s the average.
The system also doesn’t know you yet and so your +/- rating is quite high. You had more losses than wins (which isn’t unusual as you just started with pvp) and so you dropped down.
If you start to get ca. +/- 10-15 rating for a match your division should have stabilized. That doesn’t mean you have to stay there, you could have a good day and rise or a bad one and drop. I’ve been in silver t2 and gold t1, but mostly I’m around 1300.

An advice concerning your team members:
As soon as someone starts to write “noobs”, “wtf are you doing”… just block him, even if it isn’t directed at you. It makes pvp more fun.

A lot of times switching class is necessary. You often get “awesome” team compositions like 3 thieves on one team, none on the other. Or you get a team with only support classes and almost 0 damage. If people don’t switch classes those matches are 95% guaranteed loss (I say 95% because I’ve actually won matches with 3 thieves blabla but it’s very unusual).
Until Anet manages to fix the problem of class stacking and we start with near perfect composition into every match, being able to switch classes is vital.

Appreciate the insight from both of you. It helps to better understand where I am going in the PvP. I don’t worry too much about the whiners and most of the time i will just reply “yeah I suck…sorry” but for some reason that eggs them on…lol. I don’t let these people break me as I am having a great time. I am hearing there is not a big PvP population so this may be why matchmaking seems to fail sometimes.

Trudging on towards silver once again after having ripped from my phalanges

hmm swapping toons before the match starts sometimes saves it. If the swapping persons know what to do at all.
And usually you should be the mid support (if you run a druid build) but I might have misunderstood your sentence and you meant that no one else but you is might.
Then I would simply go far or stay close to defend it.
If your team is fighting out of points – tell them. Won’t really help but it’s worth a try

nerf thief, nerf it all

I am running meta power / sniper build. I modified a couple traits that benefit me. As long as I have one other with me we do fairly well to hold or capture a point. It seems there is always one in the group (and I have been guilty of it) where they run to a point because it is open only to die before capture is complete.

It is however the match making that gets me boned most of the time it seems. Again the switching of toons but I see why now people are doing it. Personally though again for me I am having fun. I know I will not be God of PvP in the end, yes I am there for some asc gear but I am not there in ranked to just play ranked for shinies. I want to win, I would love to have one of the awesome titles and even ask what the plan is. The plan just doesn’t work ll the time.
