After all those years..
Disadvantage of class stacking allowed: Eventually bad team comps because players don’t want to reroll.
Disadvantage of class stacking not allowed: Eventually bad team comps because players can’t reroll. Higher queue times, worse match quality because game can’t find enough players with suitable MMR and class.
Pre Hot i would of never cared. As someone who never really plays thief pre HOT i always felt they could make what i do easier especially on a staff cele ele and dps mace shield warrior.
Now there are serious hard counters. One game this season the enemy team saw that we had 2 thieves so 1 ranger and 1 engy both switched to 2 Dh and another person switched to ele. So they had 2 eles and 2 DH and a warrior and simply sat on 2 points after the mid fight. Never even attempted to grab our home.
Then i get matches like this (not the first one Anet)
Reason i post the 2nd pic is because if i can get PiPs for my reward chest in 1 vs 1 rooms Anet i am ready. Im this glass warrior power-discipline-zerker and im pretty sure i could do better in 1 vs 1 if i actually used a 1 vs 1 build.

At the very least they could limit stacking to 2 without breaking que times entirely I think. But I could see there being engineering problems to still allow people to switch classes without stacking classes. But really, stacking is a problem that ruins a lot of games. Tired of seeing 3 DHs in a map, especially if they’re on my team. 2 thieves is an issue too.
Skaukatt – Engi
Cräsher – Warrior
Just a quick update: fourth pvp game and 4th game with 2 thieves ni my game..
Is something wrong atm, Evan or is this plain unluck?
I still think, no class stacking would cause more issues than it would solve. Especially for the vast majority of players that play at low to above average tiers, where pretty much every team comp can work, if you just got the better players in your team. And at higher tiers, people tend to swap more often, if they got a bad comp.
Just lookt at those screenshots. Clear win for red, right?
Or maybe not?
I’ve also lost a few games against double thief comps. Players > Classes.
The problem is not even thieves, the problem is that balancing team balances classes assuming there is no class stacking while class stacking is featured in pvp. It does NOT work together.
1 DH is not problematic – multiple DHs is issue in point based game. Thieves are designed around roaming and unable to fight anything in game: 1 thief is ok, 2 thieves basically makes it a 3v5 on point etc.
Either devs should stop balancing classes in vacuum like this or prevent class stacking on initial matching of the teams. But it is like talking to a wall – pointless.
Or maybe not?

This is proof that matchmaking doesn’t work. If it was working then players on both teams would be equally skilled and there is no way double/tripple thief would win in such situation.

Yeah no offense but all this does for me and kind of demand seeing my team mates ranks.
Like i want to know the rank of each player on each class because there is no reason a bronze vs bronze DH vs thief should end this way as well as legend vs legend.
FWIW I think there is a vast difference in playing environment from mid-top tier as opposed to mid-bottom. In the former group, players generally are adept on multiple classes, can reroll when necessary and do so. In the mid-bottom tier (where the majority of players reside) a lot of players are only adept on one (maybe two) classes, are hesitant to reroll and therefore rarely do.
Yes there are many wussy-sook complaints on the forums, but a lot are based in actual gameplay experience. From what I’ve seen recently, top-mid players can’t quite wrap their head around what is happening in lower tiers because it simply doesn’t happen at higher tiers. This comes across to lower tier players as “git gud, l2p” elitist bs.
I think we need to acknowledge that the play environment is very different between top and bottom tiers. Having done so, we can then move forward by seeking ways to even the playing field. (no pun intended)
Class stacking is something you see in Unranked and lower tiers of Ranked frequently. It really does need to be addressed. I don’t know what the answer is, I’m just a try-hard scrub.

Update: 80-90% of my matches are 2 thieves in team…
Still calling for EVan to take a look at my matches and tell me if this an error in matchmaking or plain unluck.

The game doesn’t say,
“Ok I picked two thieves and two guards based on mmr. Though it would average mmr these two teams if the theives were together, I wont because, duh.”
It’s more like,
“I can’t see the classes these players are playing to determine class vs class win averages, so i’ll just do my best to balance the mmr on the two teams.
So unfortunately for you, the comp you face and the comp on your team is 100% based on luck, per matchmaking balancing mmr.

Fun fact, when i play thief i tend to get double/triple thieves on my team, it is extremely rare that enemy team has 2 thieves. However, when i play my necro or engi i see a lot of double thieves on enemy team. Coincidence? That is some amazing coincidence after 6k+ matches of observation.
Had an embarrassing match on forest where the two enemy thieves just decapped/capped and killed beasts entire time while my team just chased them around. I refused to leave mid for anything because I knew 3sec after I would leave a thief would just decap. If you are below gold don’t be so dismissive of thieves and rangers, the mode just isn’t played the same.
