After patch PvP
I thought so too, but after having spent a lot of hours ingame, adjusting my builds, experimenting and experimenting over and over, I’ve found it seems to actually work out pretty fine. Mesmers are the new thief on the 10/10 annoying scale for me, though.
To start I am aware that I am fairly alone on this thought. Most of my friends love all the changes and don’t have much to complain about. I however do, so if you love how the game in PvP is right now, this post is not for you.
After this very large damage buff to every class I believe this game has lost its skillful touch that you needed to win. Every class seems to be able to burst the other very quickly and all PvP is now is who can burst the other team the fastest.
Tl;DR After the patch the DPS of every class is too high.
You know this is relative right?
Like, you could argue that before the patch the game wasn’t skillfull. You just equiped your favorite class with its standard celestial setup and kitten ed around on point spamming your basic skill rotations to dish out constant dps while playing the sustain game. Meanwhile you had a one-eye-open cat nap at your computer until either the points ticked in your favor, or the match ran out of minutes.
On the other hand now you can’t go to sleep on a point even in the toughest bunker build. All defense of a point is extremely active, and individual/team survival is tantamount to victory. First you have to win the fights before you can win the points. Meanwhile skill levels need to improve and players have to become more mindful of their play and enemies so that they won’t be burst to down state.
So there you go, it’s all in how you tell the story.

Well yes, as stated in like 5 other threads of this nature, DPS is higher – but so are the defensive capabilities:
- Tons of very strong defensive options like stone heart, weakening shroud, unholy martyr, bunker down etc. – every class has tons of very viable defensive traits.
- Almost every class has very strong rez-traits now.
- There are also tons of new skills to make rezzing easier, like the AoE-Moa of the engi, the new guardian-shout, mesmer with the elite-glamour+resistance on it etc.
- There are actually decent counter to stealth-openers now, which are the most difficult to deal with bursts, like the counter-stealth of the engi, ranger traps, necro with the marks (necro is probably more viable now, so the counter can actually be used)
Ive been screwing around on a bunker ele. Scepter Focus with Water Arcane and Earth running stoneheart (cannot be critically hit).
I survive plenty fine with insane condi cleanse, 4k or so touchness. Mesmers cant touch me, thieves are a joke. Basicly the only issue is lich form without mistform / obsidian flesh / magnetic wave / swirling winds / armor of earth up. Ooh wait, they are always up.
