Ally Targeting?

I’m trying a healer, and I set the keybinds “Nearest Ally” and “Next Ally”. However they never seem to target players, just pets, and only sometimes. Is there any reasonable way to target allies for healing in the middle of a fight?
And where/how to show hit point bars without first (manually?) targeting? Thanks…

I am not sure if I understand you question correctly, but what do you need ally targeting for in the first place?

Heals are either AOE ground targeted (for example druid celestrial avatar skills, blasting water fields) or AOE effect with radius around you, affecting up to 4 allies automatically (Ele “Wash the Pain Away” etc.). You don’t need to target for healing your allies in GW2 unless I miss something.

The Druid class has targeted AOE’s, and with instant-able AOE’s, I’d like the ability to spam heals with a friendly in the middle of the AOE. Besides, the option says ALLY targeting…
