Almost Confirmed: Push Style Cap the Flag
Considering that features Anet directly mentions don’t materialize in game, I highly doubt that some circumspect hearsay based on the flimsiest of evidence will make it’s way into the game.
Are you so desperate that you clingy to non information like this?
I hear Mike O’brien and Colin likes the sandwichmaner, I guess that is also confirmed.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
What’s the difference between push and pull capture the flag?
Pull: Take flag back to your base
Push: Take flag to enemy base (harder)
?
Pull style is when you steal a flag and bring it to your base (run away).
Push style is when you take your flag and bring it to your opponents (run into).
Like football: imagine snapping the ball to the QB and having him run away from the line of scrimmage. Kinda not fun.
Cap the flag will not work as a game mode unless they give the flag carrier a new set of skills. Otherwise, it will just be like spirit watch where the orb carrier is not balanced.
Can’t wait to see the map!
Grouch mentioned he played Rift PVP. I bet he remembers how crappy WhiteFail Steppes was. It was pull-style CTF, with a face-off in the middle of the field.
Oh, it was terrible. The first team that got their hands on a ‘flag’ basically won because it was so much easier to run away from your opposition than through them.
We need arena from wow. Straight up ditch the objective nonsense and let us fight for glory and titles!!

Push or pull sounds boring.
The pull wouldn’t work for the reason you mentioned.
Push would encourage a bunch of bunkers.
Let’s just do real CTF where you’d need to attack and defend at the same time. We just need the flag carrier to be balanced. As soon as someone picks up a flag, they should lose the ability to use any of their weapon skills or utility/elite skills. Instead, the orb carrier should get a set of new skills. HP/Toughness of the flag carrier should also be equalized.
This is not confirmed.
We are working on game modes, though, and CTF is one that we have talked about.

They tried that. It didn’t work so hot, apparently. Now, what they didn’t mention is if they tried adding some Huttball-like twists to it. For example: the ball can be passed around and the carrier gets some unique skills which are profession-specific, such as:
– Warrior – a knockdown charge
– Guardian – reflect
– Engineer- rocket boots!
– Elementalist – bazooka fireball pass
– Thief – evade dodge opponents
– Mesmer – creates a clone and passes it to himself
– Necromancer – bone armor that absorbs damage
– Ranger – eagle pet that has super long range pass

…and tried internally, according to Chappie.
…and it’s one you mentioned you liked during the stream.
…and you did say you would, “hint at some things…” during RU
…and we know that reverse-QB CTF sucks while football-rules CTF is better
So… “almost confirmed!” (but not confirmed)
Yes, we have tried it internally. I was not part of that prototyping, sorry I left that out.
The hint was the Ready Up schedule, which should tell you a lot if you pay close attention to it.

Now I’m kind of intrigued!
Ready Ups the next 3 weeks out of 5. 3 weeks. Half Life 3 confirmed?
I would really, really hate any game mode that changes my weapon skills to other weapon skills…
A lot of mini games do that and its just soooo annoying…which is why I avoid most mini games. The very worst ones are like that crab mini game where you get 1 set of skills running around and when you pick whatever it is your meant to be picking up your skills change again…not fun at all.

They did mention that they tried it a long time ago. Most likely they tried it in a the same way as spirit watch. That definitely wouldn’t have worked.

So…
After two years…
You, as a company, are so scared of your own playerbase, a playerbase that has diehardedly supported you for most of that time, that you will only hint at hints of a schedule for a near entirely unknown patch in a video linked somewhere on these forums…
Holy kitten, talk about relationship issues.
It’s nothing against you Allie, I know doing this stuff is your job… it’s just this situation… it’s crazy

GW2 is about ready for hospice. You won’t get until 2015 to make this game good.
Considering Ready Up the schedule, the CDI’s that covered sPvP so far and tiny bits and pieces I can remember from those RU episodes that I have watched and that next weeks patch is maintenance patch…I can deduct that we are getting feature patch that will cover sigils and runes on 25th of march or 1st of april (nice joke). Also taking into the account the pvp rewards road map blog post, it is safe to assume we will get gear unification, if not with the feature patch on 25th or 1st, then no sooner than may. We might get sigil, runes, across game gear unification all in the same patch…somewhere in may.
Since nothing was said about the new game modes all we can do is speculate.
Oh and don’t forget about some sort of set goals for rewards to work towards…
Ah well only time will tell
And why do people think they don’t give more information than this?
I’ll explain it to you.
IF they give more information, and they decide to change/scrap something due to it not working well enough, there will be a massive kittenstorm about how they lied and so on. Just like every single other time anything have been said and changed for some reason.
The community have no-one to blame but themselves for this situation.

i disagree with ctf so much. at least until they remove immob stacking. it’s going to be so dumb.
and please give the flag carrier different skills so we don’t have a spirit watch scenario where warriors and rangers can leap halfway to the point while other leaps from other classes are shafted.

And why do people think they don’t give more information than this?….
The community have no-one to blame but themselves for this situation.
Everything can seem bad out of context.
Anet…
They hint at things, they just say ‘we are working on it’ or ‘it has been/is being tested internally’.
When they actually say ‘this is in the next patch’ that is crazy, its rare and so since people are so desperate for any information and change in this game (since the game is still in beta), it gets people physicked.
Dropping things from patch notes with no word as to why and about how long it will be delayed…
You may think ‘still, you should not be mad at them’.
Holy kitten. You are expecting a community to be kind to a company that is treating them like children, and worse, killing a game they like.
The community was actually generally mature, doing what you talked about, up to a year ago~. Guess what Anet was doing then…
Anet was treating them like children and killing a game they liked….
I mean, most games would go crazy for the fanboy playerbase GW2 had at launch.
Losing that, getting a bunch of kittened off players instead, that kinda isn’t the playerbase’s fault.

You are expecting a community to be kind to a company that is treating them like children?
I think… you are right.
It’s embarassing, after more than 1 year it seems that ANet doesn’t trust us AT ALL!
Always “hinting”… hinting that “something” is coming… what the hell? Do you ANet guys think that every player wants to play the detective?
What it’s done is done, but for the future, please, be less vague. Because you are ruining the CDI philosophy, a pure and honest dialogue between players and developers.
Thank you for reading.
