I am a pretty decent PvP players. I know my role and I can execute it well. I was iin the top 1000 before the reset if that means anything. I’m not superman and I’m not a Bunker who can carry a team, but I know my place.

But ever since the reset I have been losing roughly 70% of my games. I’d like to claim through no fault of my own.

It’s just the team I end up with are at times just useless or the enemy just stacks more Necros and Warriors than us. Either that or I am left with 3 Thieves on my team who can’t contribute meaningfully to team-fights because they are instant-gibbed by AoE damage.

I was pretty close to a 50/50 win/lose ratio before the reset but since then it’s been god kitten awful.

What changed about match-making that makes it such a pita?

You’re unlucky with teams. Same happened to me before the reset, now I’m in top50 on solo queue lb. Just wait it out til next reset, play with friends in team queue or pray frequently. Alternatively you can start trying to climb up the ladder by influencing your team mates, telling them where to go and what to do and you may start winning again.

if you’re high rank, you’ll get matched with lower rank teammates now.

i’m guessing you’re high rank.

also like you said, if you’re not playing warrior or necro right now you’re not doing your team any favors either. i’m guessing you’re playing thief lol.

Also, be prepared for more fortunate people who are higher on the leaderboards to come on to this thread and tell you that you suck. They need to believe that to validate their position.

But you do not suck. I am sure you know what you are doing.

Many people are experiencing the same problem. Take heart. Try to suggest plans to your teammates. Communicate in-comings. Ping the map for help, and then you have done about all you can do.

I find that your best bet is to win 2v1s or to rapidly rotate around the map winning fights.

You essentially have to babysit tour allies because you can’t trust them to win anything. Don’t go far if midfight is a 3v2, you could still lose mid. Never let an ally 1v1 if you can.

Once you get to higher mmr you can let your allies have a little more freedom over where they go. Now pushing multiple points and trolling 1v2s necessary to win. That doesn’t mean to brainlessly push far. You should make an effort to never let your enemies have nobody there.

It is a numbers game. Your capability to let your allies 2v1, 3v2, and 4v3 will often be the difference between a win and a loss.

Variance happens, especially with a relatively small pool of players. Don’t be results oriented, there are too many factors that contribute to game wins/losses. Just focus on your own play, analyze it objectively(don’t let trash talk get to you but don’t feel like you need to constantly reassure yourself either), and keep goin.

Honest question. So is the matchmaking better then before the November 10th changes or worse? Was it better when the game would often take the five highest players in the queue and then take five people who may or may not be anywhere close leading to match like the following: team one rank 100, rank 150, rank 200, rank 300, rank 350 versus team two rank 500, rank 700, rank 1000, rank 1000+, rank 1,000+ . Or is it better now when the game takes those 10 people and puts them on each team in a way that makes the MMR as close as possible between the two teams? Imo it is unquestionable better now. A lot of the problem is low population, class redundancies, and random afk or 5 v 4. Yes, some people can still get unlucky and caught in a spiral. But don’t kid yourself there were people that benefitted from the old system and were ranked higher then they should have been and conversely some people were ranked lower then they should be. Is this still happening? I am sure it is but it would defy logic to say it could be worse now.

personally i’ve been top 500+, played zerker only on ele thief and warrior, after so many 4v5 in a role, teams full of zerker and low ranks running all around the place leaving points uncapped, i just play bunker now…

Most of my pvp only friends stopped qing and only do hotjoins now, that’s probably what i’ll do as well.

but that’s probably because of the finals season.

and i’ve notice the ridiculously increased amount of a thieves too..there’s atleast 4 thieves per match the last time when i played pvp…i hate to say this, because i play thief too, but i hate seeing any other thief beside myself with another zerker class in a team, i can bare with 2 thieves and 3 tanky but this.. mostly because their inability of play…base on the past experience, i find myself hardly trusting any thief, only if i know them…

According to ArenaNet, this is ok because both teams have a chance to get crappy lineups with inexperienced players and/or bad teaming.

And if the people in the top 100 would just PLAY everyday, they would drop and allow someone else a chance to have their 15 minutes of fame.

But once they get a good rating on the leaderboard, they seem to stop playing. They know what will happen.

Look at what has happened to the recent #1 player. He stopped playing for about a week, then started, and then dropped on the leaderboard.

Yes, it’s a low-population issue. Any good player is forced to carry newer players. This tends to reduce their rating. So they stop playing.

Strange, I have the opposite problem. Playing bunker is a recipe for a good headache as I watch my team struggle to down a single player. Everybody is using durable “meta” builds and nobody has any dps.

I’d much rather play burst in the blind because at least you can pull some clutch plays instead of reviving a player that’s going to be downed right away again, or worse being left in a 1vX forever, losing your point, and not being able to get it back cause you’re a bunker and your team can’t do squat. Too many times I’ve helped my team struggle to cap middle in foefire (basically winning the match) only for them to all run to far point for some 4v2 and lose mid a minute later tossing the game.

Yes, I find bunkering on a weak team raises my blood pressure and increases my frustration. It feels useless to me. I want to see a good effect, of some kind, by my actions.

So I tend to log in with a DPS class, or a fast stealthy roamer, to go cap points or decide help out teamfights.

i thought about it too, but thing is, if they struggle downing anyone in zerg, it would be a pain for them to guard any point too. so i choose bunker, but thats just imo.

The thing that’s helped me the most with solo que is being proficient on more than one type of character. That way if my team is lacking in a certain roll, I can switch (if they all go into the arena right away at least). Most people like the high glory producing dps rolls so most of the time when I switch its to a bunker class.

I feel your pain OP, I am not flawless myself but I know good godkitten well I should be up there. Two days ago I lost 11 matches in a row and went from 118th to 65% and now I fear there is no chance of escaping the elo hell.

I agree with the OP. Too many times it’s like 3 "bunkers " vs none, and you lose because you couldn’t do anything. You can surely win, but very hardly, whilst you can lose really easily( 1 bunker on each shrine and that’s it )

I don’t seem to have a problem staying in the top 100. I occasionally drop out but I mostly bounce between 50 and 150.

Just bad luck, I had that 2 resets before :P

Lost about 85% of all games.

Just play a lot and you should get back to your previous status with more capable players. Playing zerker build is better than bunker at low ranks. And if you get more than 1 thief(even that is a lot) try to ask them to use other char.

They made it so you don’t get stacked/lopsided teams, its more even now. So if you are still losing 70% of your games then it could mean you aren’t pulling your own weight. That, or stop queuing for a bit after you lose so you don’t get the same people again.

I got matched with lots of 4v5s over the last few days, as well as matches where my team mates would not listen as well as allow the enemy team to take home point, focusing all of their attention to mid. Despite my pleas for help retaking home, then going for mid and holding two points they’d simply keep going for mid.

Or you know. Let the enemy team take lord.
Or ignore the enemy treb.
Or ignore the Sky Hammer (God I hate that arena)
Or let the enemy cap the orb AND have two points majority of the game

I’ve gotta tell you, I’m starting to think it doesn’t matter what you play. There are just some matches you aren’t gonna carry. If you get 4v5, that’s basically game unless the other team is just horrible.

Currently, the leaderboards are severely flawed. 4v5s and bad teammates, and even bad comps can affect your rating pretty badly. It’s pretty easy to find yourself on a losing streak. Especially considering you can get half a team that has no idea what point control is. Over and over and over.

And over.

And over.

Try not to worry about your rank, even after the “changes” the leaderboard is still a joke. You’ve got people with under 100 total games in the top 10 and plenty of 4v5 matches to go around. Just try to get better at what you do and hopefully become good enough to, as much as I hate to say it, carry more teams.

reason for this is the low population

when you fall down to some point you get paired with bads now much more than before

dont know exact numbers now but lets say when fall out from top 1000 its 65%?

thats something like 2500 players we have now

so when you fall to some low % the chance is much higher you get paired with the bads and new players than with higher players

TeamQ (but solo) i lost after reset the first 3 matches and was paired all day long with rank 1-5 players getting farmed from team

If you’re hig rank you will ofted get low ranks in your team, they keep saying that rank doesn’t count in matchmaking but all i see is that i get like 2 r30+ and 2 r40+ vs all r40-50+ almost everytime i go soloq…seems a way to “balance” out my 62 i guess, sometimes you get good r30s in your team vs bad skyhammer farmed r50s in the other team but many times you just have to try to carry out your team as much as possible…that’s why i go with bunker guard only, you can carry ppl much better with a bunker (And hold lame skyhammer pretty much indefinately since you can cheaply banish them to their death)

I disagree with this. If you are a bunker and try to carry a bad team, you just watch helplessly. You can bunker one point very well but your team still looses 1-2. You try to relocate to capture something and and soon as you leave, the node you bunkered is flipped. From my experience it is much easier to carry a bad team with a roamer and just keep flipping the points.

Not really…if you get a bad team you can just hold one point and send other 4 to something else and it usually works…you just need to keep directing in team chat but if they’re just able to follow it’s ok…someone even backups you if you call like 3 times in chat…

Same thing happened to me right before the reset, loss after loss was really quite painful & after being at a constant 90-150 I was pretty happy with my solo q standings but then something just snapped and I fell all the way off the leader boards. It’s all luck, those 11-0 holding the first place spot on the leader boards didn’t get there by actually being the best.
