Amber to Legend as Meta Mesmer
Interesting. Part of the reason I was even motivated to try and play ranked was because I was reading so many different reactions to the process. Your experience seems to have been like mine and I agree with your advice, although I was playing with a base Engi build but the things you’re saying I put into practice with it and I applied no matter what class I was playing.
I don’t know if this reflects how ranking up was during the early days of the season, since this late in it seems that the divisions do usually reflect the type of skill level you will meet within.
I agree with your assessment of Meta mesmer too.

I am not sure because I was unable to play during the first League Season, but I’m inclined to believe that waiting towards the end of the season and playing meta carry builds will make it easier to climb through the divisions (granted you have the ability to carry). It’s too volatile in the beginning, at least from what I am imagining, unless you are lucky enough to have a build not touched all that much due to “balance” changes.
Just realized I played 1 or 2 matches with you along the way. I remember hoping I’d get more teammates like you. Might have even been earlier today.

My thoughts:
Because MMR heaven/hell are real, I had very little problem (while solo queued) in Ruby (div4) and Diamond (div5). I played Meta Mesmer for all of it. MMR issues need to be immediately addressed when they arise, there were players on some of the enemy teams that were objectively better than me and my team, and were brought down because of the lack of ability in their team they were placed with, eg. 3 sometimes 4 of the enemy team were either asleep at the keyboard or were playing a class they had never played before. These people are being taken advantage of by the system and should not have to wait until the next season to enjoy playing the game. There really is no acceptable excuse from Anet why broken systems like this are allowed to exist for the entirety of a season, sorry.……..
Stepping stones mate , is jut why Anet does nth to address the issue, wile pvp players get used by mostly pve ones to reach legendary so they can come back next season given the fact the did so well on S2..
…………………..
My biggest advice is to stay positive, encourage your team, and remember to be prepared to res/stomp before the person(s) go down. Finally, do not fight to the death on every point, you are by far more useful to your team when you leave a lost point and +1 another fight than you are when you are sitting in respawn.
………….
Hard, if not impossible ,to do when from the get go ppl wont even type a “hello” in reply to yours and just plain ignore the simple question “who wants close?” all you get is mostly 60seconds of staring at the screen and your chat hoping some1 can either read English of give a da|mn about the match to get a makeshift strategy going beforehand

True, there were games where chat was 100% silent, but that didn’t stop me from continuing to type to them about incomings, or what I was thinking, or where I was heading. Sometimes I was ignored, but sometimes I wasn’t. I believe this ALSO has to do with MMR heaven/hell, low skill players are probably more likely to forgo communication, at least from my experience.

<— on it atm and the attitude im trying to keep is fairly the same as yours , just with little to no results for my troubles , had a 30+ losing streak interrupted by a lonely win and back to losing again, ppl just dont give a kitten and will ultimately end up were they feel like it, cap mid drop it to free roam. not capping close or 4 ppl camping close from the start of the game and enemy team isnt even pushing it.. i mean c|rap u don’t even see on unranked..
Communication is vital is a team based game and you’ll know that u are entering kitten when u type @ the start and ppl don’t reply

My advice is, if you lose 3 in a row, stop playing for an hour. This will ensure you are matched with different groups of people.
What division are you currently in?
What class are you currently playing?
Are you capping home at start if no one is?
Are you back capping / decapping open points when given opportunity?
Are you +1 fights that can be won instead of fighting on stalled points?
Are you keeping track of respawns and calling them to your teammate on far point?
Keep making the correct choices, even if you do not win. There are choices you can make that can help to swing momentum in your favor even if just a little.
boring , try warrior tp get legend that will be more fun

taking breaks for hours or even days has not helped me one bit

My advice is, if you lose 3 in a row, stop playing for an hour. This will ensure you are matched with different groups of people. *——-> rarely doing this, must admit.
*What division are you currently in? —-—-> R3 for 3 weeks
What class are you currently playing? —-—> thief > engi > ele ( refuse to play necro as it seems to be the answer most ppl give to sort sth that shouldn’t exist in the 1st place )
Are you capping home at start if no one is? *——-> invariably on home/beast duty >mid > +1’s and far pressure ( on thief )
*Are you back capping / decapping open points when given opportunity? —--> always on the move , yes
Are you +1 fights that can be won instead of fighting on stalled points?——-> never park on capped points ( thief )
Are you keeping track of respawns and calling them to your teammate on far point? on inc calls duty but its pointless as ppl dont even tab to the called target.Keep making the correct choices, even if you do not win. There are choices you can make that can help to swing momentum in your favor even if just a little.
Started season with Engi got the usual win some lose some followed by the usual streaks interrupted by the occasional marginal loss > 18 loss streak > 1 win > 30+ loss streak..
after my 10th loss on engi were keeping myself alive on 3 v 1 mid fight would amount to nth as ppl wont even attack the targeted player after coming back from spawn i swapped to thief as if im actually trying and getting no were let me swap to a class that in = null on it and was still top of most of my matches.
High mobilty = fun for me and makes the cap/decap a breeze even on matches were we would start with a 100+ points margin wed lose in a “WTH hapened” fashion shortly after, team rotations = 0 the "ima 1 vs 4 mid cause i am legend and can kill them all " policy seems to be a prevailing law among most ppl on R3.
my gripe is that the decline wasn’t gradual and more like a switch got flipped, hard fought matches with actual comunication beeing made started getting the silent type ones were ppl jut throw themselves at whatever and /care to even try.
Thought of rolling a F2p account but cases of it are that many that the problem is highlighted enough , a simple “we are still working things out” would suffice as i remember last season things got sorted before the end of it regarding Q’s , now its as if no one sees the elephant in the room, so nth is done. S3 will have the same model with minor tweaks and its going to be rinse and repeat, but as long as we have wings to spend gems on ppl should be happy.
Not a top player by a huge margin, so legendary was never a goal for me, to improve my game and HF is why i do it, but things are beyond ridiculous regardless how much effort u put into it.
GZ on legendary tho mate o/

Most of it wont make a ton of sense without proper context, but you can still see how important a little communication is XD
Typing in the middle of a fight is an art though, and most people arent fast typers to begin with. PvP would do well with in built voice comms.
Diamond is a pain. I had winning streaks and as well as losing streaks. I was asked by random people I encounter in matches to duo queue, I refuse, I believe I can make it to legend via solo!
After repeating these for a few days, magically my MMR gotten “better” and winning streaks & losing streaks no longer exist, becoming win/lose situation. I still remember I was once matched against a full guild team with a group of 5 solos. Dev says that only happens it only happens if 50% and more win rate across divisions but I never had this impression I had 50% win rate across divisions, regardless, won that match easily.
Still struggling in the last 2 tiers of diamonds.

To the OP, you made it in 3 nights from Amber to Legen, sorry for being realistic, but you totally missed playing with the tougher players that are now in Legen (x2+). That’s why it’s easier to climb up to Legen now at the end of the season, which doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to be in Legen, you probably do, but evidently is easier now.

I 100% agree, end of season is less volatile. I’ve also queued with and against plenty of esl players while queuing with a friend that was already in legend.
