You know what – I was the biggest Anet supporter for many years.

I was an evangelist for the franchise.
I praised the Developer and the game long before it launched.
I advocated its cause every time I felt necessary.
I had a strong link with the Guild Wars brand.

Anet has done a marvelous job at destroying it with the PvP they gave us.

I first started to
get angry,
then rage,
then hate
and finally I just lost hope.

Now I don’t care anymore.

I feel we were treated as stateless people suffering from lack of civil rights and sovereign protection.
We were treated as no one cared about us.

Why would we care?

i was one of the people going around telling people to mark August 28th 2012 as the day WoW dies.
now i feel like an idiot.
dont get me wrong, the PvE is great, but PvP just seems like a small side project, as thought the devs had some spare time one day and decided “hey lets make a PvP mode!” and then they got bored halfway through. ;-)

i feel what we need is something like Elder Scrolls Online to announce that it’ll have amazing PvP,
maybe that would act like a catalyst sparking some PvP interest for the GW2 devs before they lose their entire pvp community to somewhere that gives a care. ;-)
GW1 was such a great pvp experience, what happened?!

Clearly many players are not satisfied with sPvP.

Many people like myself couldn’t give Anet our money fast enough with the hope that they would design a pvp rpg that was similar to GW1, but with new and innovative combat mechanics.

In a sense we were duped as we got a barely functional system that is still pretty much in an early beta stage and is going to require months and months of development time to even get to the starting point GW1 was at 7 years ago.

By that time the new car feeling will be long gone for most people, so the potential for an esport level spvp community seems pretty low.

For the people who actually want spvp to be a higher priority for Anet, our only option is to keep these kinds of posts coming.

GW1’s PvP was the best I ever had the chance to take part in.

GW2 is probably one of the worst, if not the worst.

Hopefully the brilliant minds behind GW1’s PvP have not left ANet and can get their respective roles back, so that they can try and replicate what they did 7 years ago within GW2.

Oh look, another troll thread posing as “a longtime supporter of Anet.”

Here’s a hint, your posting history is just two clicks away. It doesn’t take long to see the utter lack of “support” you’ve offered.

I’m still enjoying it, and I never really got into GW1, and found WoW required way too much time to get the gear to “balance” it.

I guess as those of you leave, others will rise up and take your place. The honeymoon population is over, now they will slowly build upon the player base they have, and still keep general interest in the game up through their PvE efforts. I think things are headed in the right direction, just very slowly.

Whoru? Really? If you don’t like it, go away and leave us be. Just leave this topic. We don’t want you here with your arbitrary comments.

I’ve had my constructive input written and posted long before you wrote a word on these forums, I’ve been posting during BWEs. I’ve contributed in a ‘Lost Potential’ thread/ Check it out, even though it’s probablty TL;DR for you…

Yes.
I wouldn’t have minded waiting another year for a game that would actually be worth PvP’ing in.
Ever since WAR died, I haven’t really gotten pulled into another MMO’s PvP and was really hoping to change that with GW2…

Being a fan of a game… is completely determined by how much you post on the official forums?
Do you seriously believe that???

Yes.

I don’t understand people like this.

My personal policy (after a bunch of terrible MMO launches) has been to wait 3 months after the release of an MMO before buying, just for the early awfulness to be fixed.
(sadly due to peer pressure I broke this policy for D3. And less sadly, for GW2.)

The game is playable. I and many others are enjoying it just fine.
Yet you want all of us to wait another year, just so you can “start” with a game that’s in a satisfactory condition for you?

That’s stupid. Why do other people have to suffer for your excessive expectations?

Why not just pretend GW2 never released, go and live your life for a year, and then see if it’s worth coming back to or not?

In the meantime, I’ll be enjoying GW2.

WoW did not even have PvP (other then open world on pvp servers) the first 8 months and it took 2 years before arena.

Game is moving along just fine, we all wish there was already duels deathmatch rated pvp/arenas etc… They said things are getting worked on all we can do is argue about the order of importance (duels deathmatch)

Take a break because in a few months when those things are in place you will be back…. or are you actually going to stick with DIII or WoW? I think not.

gw1 was a pvp oriented game , the best pvp game in years and look, smart devs didnt hold on the trend..

GW1 had a much larger PvE population then PvP, I did play GW1 towards the end of its lifecycle late 2011 + the PvP populations was extreamly small. The PvE populations was large and active still for such an old game that had not released a expansion in years.

When GW1 released, yeah I shelved it went back to WoW dueling battleground open world pvp. I basicly did 100% pvp in the PvE game you claim WoW is. WoW arena/BGs etc had a larger PvP community probably still does then GW1 ever did even in its hayday.

WoW had a solid PvE population that fed the PvP…. rated arenas let casuals fight casuals and improve skills continually building a PvP population.

GW1 PvP was closed to new players outside RA farming. It was a terrible farming system alot of top players had slow reflexes and were bad from what i seen but in a farming based system it did not matter they had the pointless ranks.

Anyway GW2 is moving foward it has more potental then any MMO out there.

Pve playerbases are always bigger than its pvp counterparts. I am genuinely sorry to hear you started playing GW when it reached the dark ages. Mind, however, that you shouldn’t make asumptions about the real GW – its pvp golden times – based on those rather inaccurate and lacking impressions.

Wow in general had several times the player figures of GW in any case. However, quality>quantity.

GW1 PvP was closed to new players outside RA farming. It was a terrible farming system alot of top players had slow reflexes and were bad from what i seen but in a farming based system it did not matter they had the pointless ranks.

I had a very smooth transition to organized pvp without farmin RA, really. Perhaps I was just lucky to have loved the concept behind the arenas and find it thoroughly enjoable to play in.

Anyway GW2 is moving foward it has more potental then any MMO out there.

It actually isn’t moving much in terms of progress towards an esport game, which was declared to be its holy grail from the very start. Its pvp playerbase has diminished so severely only 3 months into the release that you may soon compare it to that of its predecessor (excluding perhaps peak time activity).

We created enough “substance” about why GW1 PvP was better than GW2.

Here Sir, have a nice read : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Lost-potential/first

Anet don’t want to hear what former pvp players have to say. That’s really frustrating.

Hello everyone,

please use this already existing thread instead https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Lost-potential.

Also, please refrain from adding misleading titles to threads. This is clearly a positive thread title for a thread made to collect negative opinions, chosen to be overly dramatic in the opening post.
