Seriously, the unrank system is really bad, especially between each seasons. New PVP players always match with high skill players. They can learn almost nothings from an unbalance game but get crushed most time. For skillful players, unrank is not fun. The result of the game is depend on how many new players in each team not how skillful they are.
Just a suggestion, make the unrank system like rank system, match people by their rank. So new players can learn PVP steps by steps, and high skill players can test their build or have fun with more skillful opponents.

The problem with unrank is/are the rewards, it’s pretty fine as it is. Your proposal s what we had, before S1, the changes were made because almost everyone agreed that rank != skill. The current unrank MM is a lot better to be honest, since it’s based on your W/L rate and the number of games played.

Is the data of W/L rate and number of game based on rank? or unrank or total game? I am confusing. If we do have that system, why I still match with some new PVP players(on my team or the other team). I played 910 rank games so far and have about 58% win rate.

Based on the total number of unranked played,,, They have changed it while back, right after S1. So your win-rate and your total number of unranked games played are taken into account.

In game, but ill attach the link in abit

And @ OP here are the changes

Structured Player vs. Player

Changed matchmaking to use games played per arena instead of rank. For example, matchmaking in Unranked Arena will consider total Unranked games played.
Changed matchmaking to not consider rating deviation. Deviation is still used when updating ratings as part of the Glicko algorithm.
Changed matchmaking to have a smaller fixed starting rating search range instead of using rating deviation.
Changed matchmaking to use inflated party ratings when scoring potential rosters against each other. Inflated party rating is still used when collecting the initial roster list.
Changed matchmaking to favor queue time less. This prevents other scoring factors from being obscured.
Changed matchmaking to not favor rosters with unique professions and instead disfavor rosters with duplicate professions. This prevents other scoring factors from being obscured.
Changed default rating to a lower value to account for the removal of deviation adjustments in matchmaking.
Fixed a bug in matchmaking in which rosters could be skipped when forming teams.
Fixed a bug in matchmaking in which guild teams were not properly favored to play against each other.
Fixed a bug in Ranked Arena matches in which players who never connected show as amber division on the scoreboard.
Fixed a bug in which players would unintentionally get dishonor.
Forfeits are reenabled. Losing a game in which a teammate received dishonor will result in a forfeit. Players partied with the dishonorable player receive a desertion on loss, but they will not get dishonor.

Here is a devs explanation of the first change

Also, for the first point “Changed matchmaking to use games played per arena instead of rank. For example, matchmaking in Unranked Arena will consider total Unranked games played.”

I’m a little confused; I thought the total number of games was already used in the MMR?

Games-played was not including in matchmaking scoring before. Rank was similar, but could have been gained in varying PvP environments (like custom arenas) and has a cap to it. Now, two players in unranked that both have 500 unranked games played will score better than a player with 500 and a player with 200.

it’s pretty fine as it is.

What wrong with it? And the OP want us to go back to pre-S1 match-making, which was changed for a reason…

Thx for find out the update notes. Well, that means I have to play lost of the unbalance games until I get a suitable unrank MMR. I played less than 150 unrank games XD.
Now, I just hope unrank MMR could base on total game in future.

+1 for truth.

@Issac: Unranked MMR is currently (partially) based on the total number of games played.

Unranked is a zillion times better than ranked, ranked puts full teams of newbie players against full teams of experienced players… Most people don’t like that, there’s no point in a match like that. If you’re on the newbie team you’ll be better off just afking the entire match than going in and dying instantly repeatedly. Why don’t you guys leave unranked matchmaking alone and stop trying to mess it up like ranked is atm and just wait for ranked it will be back very soon. If you make both ranked AND unranked match ups horrible there’s not gonna be any place for those who like even, fair matches every once in a while to play anymore…..
