in some games when someone is stealth and got close to an enemy player they get faintly reveal themselves like a tansparent, like how you see thief stealth when they on your team for a fraction of a second. why not implement that so there is actual counter play to stealthing. other will agree or disagree, but having counterplay is how you really achive balance in a game. and pls dont tell me to randomly swing my sword or throw aoe or even randomly dodge -_-
Absolutely not. You must spam your CD’s in hopes of hitting the stealthed player, randomly dodge-roll or, hope that the player doesn’t backstab you to death 3 seconds later with full health.
Stealth has enough counterplay as it is: if you recall, pre-patch, in tpvp, only one meta build was using stealth. The other stealth professions (mesmer and ranger) were not considered very viable. The problem we face now is the burst. Reduce the stats from the amulets and you won’t have trouble against stealth builds anymore.

Why not tone down stealth it self? Not sure why PU ended this way the focus on defensive boons and little stealth boost was better. I don’t see the stealth from ranger you are talking about, I would say leave the amulets and go to stealth thief SA got toned down as well.

I was thinking of the rangers in WvW running runes of the trapper. And I agree with you: PU now gives a bit too much stealth. Maybe 50% would be more balanced. But that’s not a problem with stealth itself.

Why do people keep talking about stealth and thieves. Thieves are the second worst/weakest profession in the game right now, just ahead of rangers.
Stealth has plenty of counterplay if you know how to play the game correctly. A thieves stealth lasts 3 seconds and he has a 4 second revealed debuff. His only longer stealth is on a minute long cooldown. Once he is out of stealth, he can be taken from 100-0 in a couple of moves. It is so easy to avoid being backstabbed for 3 seconds, it amazes me that people still struggle with this.

Stealth has very little counterplay in this game, in most MMOs damage knocks people out of stealth, the ability to in-combat stealth is very limited, there is normally no way to stealth other players, there are consumables that counter stealth in some way, movement speed is often slower in stealth and so on, stealth in GW2 is easymode.
In conquest stealth is limited to an extent due to not being able to contest / cap points in stealth and the OP cheese of constantly being able to reset fights is limited due to the points ticking away meaning you can’t waste time like that, but in stronghold stealth will be as broken as it is in WvW.

I’m not advocating thief nerfs I main thief I just stated that SA got toned down it seems they fixed the bug with SE and SRej but CiS is still not worth taking but I am advocating 3 sec reveal in PvP it needs to come back. Trapper Runes would open diversity in PvP I don’t see the issue with them in WvW, with mesmer it’s just that the expansion of trait lines were more beneficial to them.
The new Engineer trait in Tools puts Reveal and 10 stacks of vuln for 8 seconds (!) to stealthed target if you manage to hit them. Easy to do if you know they are coming, just spam grenades around you and you’ll git em. Not that I had problem with teefs before it, but its a nice bonus I guess.
This should just be titled Thief counterplay since every other class that has stealth attacks from range. LB Ranger uses stealth to reposition themselves to be further away. Mesmer doesn’t need to be next to you to burst you down from stealth and Engineer doesn’t have any melee weapons anyways.
Stealth is fine. Instant cast is a little bit of a problem but Thief manages to be fine even with instant cast.
For thief it’s more about preventing them from stealthing in the first place or punishing them when they come in for a mele hit. You can stop a thief from stealthing other than blinding powder.

Shhhhh. Repeat after me: there is no counterplay

The two parts of your sentence are only weakly linked. Most MMOs don’t have as much damage mitigation, as much AoE (deadly again stealthy targets). And this out-combat stealth has a lot of drawbacks as well: in pvp, with sufficient awareness, you are not often surprised by a stealth burst: you can prepare for it. So yeah, enough counterplay in conquest at least.
I agree that Stronghold might be a different problem though. In WvW, I use stealth traps, maybe we’ll have something similar? Maybe a champion who pulses reveal waves?
