Last season: 132 matches – Legendary
This season: 586 matches – Diamond T2

Git gud or broken matchmaking? I have never felt so drained and stressed from a game before.

Whilst watching my friends around me who have never stepped foot in PvP before this season get to Legendary whilst I get stuck fighting un winable games in Ruby is just heartbreaking.

I played in Legendary with my friends and did completely fine. I feel I should be there.

In Diamond I win 1 on 1s 80% of the time. Hold far against multiple targets for extended durations and don’t doubt my skill at all. I just seem to get 70% of my games stuck with people who have no idea what they are doing.

The only reason I rage is because one of my friends who has never touched PvP in Gw2 before Season 2 got straight to Legendary in 2 weeks.

We at the forum don’t know how to process this information because it might lead us to believe that there might actually be something wrong with the system and our 2 months of telling people to “get good” might somehow be flawed. So get good.

Playing so many games results in fatigue and poorer performance. The only solution is more games. Then you start to feel worn out over the whole process.

But don’t tell us we’re idiots.

They broke the game , not just you. They have lost anyone that could make it better. Find a different game, GW2 will die soon enough. Meta crap builds that are no fun to play along with crap build and new content that is just a time sink. Every game that tries to add to much crap before they fix what needs to be fix dies. So go the cycle of life. Deal with it and move on….. It was fun for a time but now it must come to a end!

RIP GW2 (do they really thing meta crap is fun?)

I went through a phase where I was feeling exactly like this. I don’t know what professions you play but it sounds like you are trying to play to it’s strengths and have knowledge of how to do that. But, along with playing to your strengths and getting at your opponents weaknesses You have to have a clean, peaceful mental game. No desperation. No caring about losing, no fear of that in sight. It’s hard to break out of that desperate mindset, but consciously try to do it every match. I wouldn’t even worry about mechanical strengths or weaknesses, just about being constant and focusing on whats at hand in the fight you engage in.*

Consciously focus on not what you will lose, but where you can place yourself in the current match to set your team up for the win. If you lose then who cares. If you win then it’s fine. You have to make sure that every match you are pulling away~ from the desperate plays and fear of your teammates making mistakes and being pulled more~ toward logical engagements and not succumbing to 1v1’s that aren’t needed. The meta won’t matter as much because you have a superior, collected vein of play in your mind. That’s what worked for me.

So i was on an alt account just now trolling ppl who claimed to be stuck in MMR hell. It was all bad matchmaking they said…nothing to do with their own poor positioning and lacking mechanical skills they said.

So i said it was easy to get to legend … they laughed at me and tried to make fun of me on mapchat. Then a funny thing happened; i queued in to 4 of those guys in a premade and farmed all of them. Literally blew them up instantly at mid and farmed them in outnumbered fights in their favour at their close. And it was mostly since their positioning and mechanical skills sucked.

So they begged me to play with them or stop queueing lol.

I play this game and pvp for about 5-6 months and 2 of those were strictly only pvp day after day.
I play just and only as a guardian (Im a righteousfag) as I do not enjoy other classes, simple as that. Yet I have much to learn still about other professions in order to get better.

I hit ruby rank and couldn’t get past tier 1, though when I was on a good way out, real life stuff happened and I do not find enough time to play. So I did my rank in two weeks, but for one week I couldn’t get out of ruby T1, came to conclusion I belong here and gotta git gud or run some meta cheese but I am mentally handicapped as I only enjoy playing professions that make me struggle + on non meta build.

Every rule has its exception.
As for those who “slide” through divisions and smoothly hit legendary as some people claim, these men and women are such exceptions.
This is why I do not see some legendary players to be truly legendary, for this reason and a few more, legendary prestige feels underwhelming.

It is said, you either git gud or die trying. Well… I ain’t gonna roll flavor of the season profession to gain my goal, I’ll stand true to my way (righteousfag 2x) and hit that legendary div once guardian will be more capable. For now I’ll stay here on my sweet ruby spot.

Guardian is meant for jolly crusading.

I do think that matchmaking is “broken” this season. I felt the games were more competitive last season, contrary to what they are saying now. Getting to legendary last season felt challenging and rewarding, this season I had to play a lot more games which majority of felt like a flop every time. I think… and hear me out.. ANet tries to get a lot more people on board for PvP, with the current matchmaking, we see a lot of “PvE” people in Legendary… this season is just a grind, and matchmaking has no correlation to skill. ANet please don’t lie.

Yes last season challenging was queueing up with an amber to crater your MMR to get bad enemies and to gain bonus pips on wins. Then its to go full tank and bored each other to death on a point. Pushing each other off points because everyone was tank this tank that and never died. Yes challenging indeed.

Seriously all those “pro” player that deserves legendary pls show a few videos of your gameplay before you mouth off and blame on A-Net. If anything this season hitting legendary is way to easy.

Oh trust me. If I focused on myself then I would believe that I’m not good enough to make it to Legendary and belong in Diamond. However seeing PvE’rs from my guild who have acknowledged im a better pvper than them getting to Legendary in 2 weeks, thats what has broken me.

Besides yesterday there was a player in my team who was there to “Tank MMR”. He was intentionally going AFK to lose the game. We all get one game from time to time like that I guess but i proceeded to get matched with him not twice, not three times but four games in a row. Bad luck? Really?

Well, by all means keep flailing into a brick wall and succumbing to the fear of losing and letting it dictate bad rotations. I didn’t just slide smoothly into Legendary. At one point I went from the top-end of T6 Diamond to the very bottom of T2 Diamond. Like 15 losses consecutively. At that point I stopped caring, stopped trying to pass blame ect and just played for fun. A novel idea on a video game right? Watch top streamers and see how emotional they get over things. Your mental game is just as important as your mechanical game.

Yeah you had a few loses and now you’re a zen master. You still disregarded completely what the OP was saying. Why don’t you apply those mental skills to reading what they said? How does a person who has never played ranked before attain legendary while someone who has played thousands of games cannot? There has to be some “other factor” involved outside of mechanical skill and mental state.

Well that means that ANet’s balance is jackkitten. Necros are too powerful. Did you 3on1 bunch of revs?

Given you have to press 5 buttons in total to win while they have to swap legends and weapons and double click the herald abilities and position them onto you, I think their task is a little bit more difficult than your braindead pulsing stability necro, lol o.O

I hope necro gets kicked out of meta the way the warrior is. It’s the single most cheesy class for the past 6 months.

I automatically assume that every necro player is a freaking baddie at this game regardless of league division or winrate. Because 90% of them are but they just spin for the win. Same with revenants. Majority are baddies.

Funny enough though last night when i broke into diamond T4 my team had 3 DHs vs 3 reapers and we won something along the lines of 500:150 while losing initial mid fight. Dem reapers are terrible lol.

Disregarding your negativity, I find it highly unlikely that someone ascended to Legendary without ever setting foot inside Ranked* before. How is that logical? More than likely they got paired with really good teammates consistently who were more focused on what they needed to do in the match rather then worrying about where everyone else was screwing up. The game is just harder than it used to be for Solo Q’er’s because the bunker meta allowed for a familiar aspect to exist in each game. You got a bunker Mesmer? Okay, good, the entire team knows that Mid or Far will be pressured consistently all game.

That doesn’t exist anymore and for me personally that was one of the biggest obstacles. A single whipe at mid now is pretty much all you need to shift momentum and stagger the other teams respawns. Of course, you won’t have an advantage against a premade that is using TS/Coordinating rotations, but what can Anet do about something that is working as intended? Not allow premades to play against Solo Q’ers?

You realize i play berserker amulet core necro right? One good burst from a thief or rev and im down from 100% to 0.

A bit like thief the difficilty lies within the high risk high reward factor and not the number of binds needed. While i would agree with you when looking at tankier reaper builds….with this build however….

A good comnparison is scrapper vs this build.

Scrapper has a lot more abbilities to manage but since you have so many failsaves and ways to sustain correct positioning for examples becomes less crucial.

I used to play engi (pp, ps and all types of rifle variants) but i personally found this engi incarnation bland and shallow. The difference between a good and a top engi is barely noticeable which makes it far less enjoyable. Yet it has just as many abbilties… so in your eyes the depth should be similar right?

Same story as the 500 other posts on the forums you know? I don’t know if “MMR Hell” exists or not, nor do I really care to be honest. There were some graphs posted a while back with data that seemed to show that there were some extreme variations in MMR that allowed a small subset of players to float along the top and get to Legendary very easily. We don’t have access to the metrics that ArenaNet does, and we also are looking at it from a sort of perfect scenario standpoint. Player population factors in, as well as variance in skill. I know more than one person who has made a f2p account and flew up threw the divisions with no problems, so you could still have players who are Amber playing in Diamond but they are really Legendary x6 on their other account. There’s only so much you can do to prevent getting paired against higher tier players in those scenarios.

Posted by: jessiestiles.9437

jessiestiles.9437

Yes and all the people on this forum alone that have posted that they are on their 3rd alt account who flew up to legendary. That small subset is getting pretty large. Did you see on those graphs an equal number of people at the other end of that getting consistent bad matchups? So this “other factor” I was refering to that allows someone with no experience in ranked to attain legendary in unlosable matches, if you can understand this then what logically follows is it equally affects another group who are placed in unwinable matches.
