As an update, we’ve had some meetings and this did come up as one of the skills we’d like to test changes with. To start, we’re looking at the overall radius and damage output. We did discuss some of the other ‘crazy’ stuff (that involves functionality change), but for now we’re going to test it out with some number changes and see how it feels. This probably won’t be in for quite some time, but I just wanted to update the thread and let you know that we didn’t forget.

I think this post might imply that we won’t get a balance patch anytime soon, especially considering that Anet has been bundling their balance patches only in big skill changing feature updates as of late.

another 14 days? I think you misplaced days with: improved tooltips in 2 weeks/ let us (devs) improve some skills nobody uses [i.e improve reaction time on Death Blossom by 1s, etc]. I expect the next feature patch in winter 2014 with what’s left of the abysmal population, unless anet believes the esport hype from Chinese people (more $$) until they see the sad state we played with in 2 years. That money will run out quick.

Dude, we are probably not going to get a balance patch until the end of the year, say Oct/Nov. ANet does not prioritize PvP balance, as it makes them no money in the gem store.

I feel like balance changes are important, but right now the meta is actually not completely awful sure there’s stuff to work on but it’s never going to be the case that PerfectBalance will be achieved, we keep finding things which are completely cancerous. #Warriors,IncindieryPowder,Strenghtroons+AirFireSigils,OutPlayedByAi.

What we need are Features; by keeping these threads in the community’s eye and not allowing them to leave the front page we might not get everything but we might get something.

I honestly believe that arenanet has two camps one camp that wants to help make PVP the best that it can be and one camp that says that PVP is basically irrelevant, the only way for the first camp to be able to do it’s job is when they can point to player consensus, especially when they have to fight the status quo of Making a profit by selling things in the Gemshop over implementing features.

“Hey look You’re wrong the players really DO want templates, and yes it might hurt us with our character slot sales, but this will be a really great feature for the game”

wot? they added some useless traits and spiced up some of the lackluster runes

meta shift? every game i join i see hambow warriors, decap engis, PU mesmers, perma stealth thieves, spirit rangers , MM necros lol.

D/D eles got a huge buff thx to the power of the new strenth runes, so majority of the eles I see now are all running that build lol.

Hardly a meta shifting patch… it added some interesting things but it didn’t even come close to shaking up the meta…

Yea I see some turret builds, but I still saw plenty of them before… for the most part decap engi is still king… same with hambow, same with MM necro, same with spirit ranger…mesmers are primarly condi class, this hasnt changed it much. all the good ones still are condi’s. I agree I don’t see pistol whip thieves now but meh, theives are all pretty much same.

I just don’t agree that this was a MASSIVE meta shift… majority of the stuff is still the same dude… the runes of strength are obviously a big game changer but only for classes that can readily apply strength at will like DD eles and warriors

The game is on its last leg with PvP. Few people with extensive experience play anymore and it’s barely surviving based on newbies right now.

Unfortunately, they put newbies in matches with experienced people, which makes it a miserable experience for both. (Imaging if WoW, Swotr, etc. put level 1s in BGs with end game level people.)

For everything they “fixed” in the last patch…the created a new and even bigger problem.

On a macro basis, the game is now empty. They got rid of pvp ranks which makes all that effort (which was the ONLY “reward” for PvP before) wasted.

Instead of fixing underwater combat, they just chunked it from every BG and even totally eliminated an entire BG. What a waste of programming and learning certain skills, combos, traits for experienced players! If they “give up” instead of fixing things, it’s hard to blame players for quitting either.

They made the most obvious blunder imaginable by combining sigils that could easily get exploited and didn’t properly project certain runes being OP. (What’s scary is that they almost let confusion runes go through too until the community set them straight at the last minute.)

They got rid of 8v8 hotjoin for no reason. It was a great compromise and change of pace from the WvW zerg and the 5v5 competitive pvp. Now..you can’t get 1 hotjoin to stay 5v5 to save your life. It never starts 5v5 and the scores are always lopsided. People are getting the frustrating “team swap” 10x more than in the past which is further evidence of failure.

Matchmaking is an absolute joke…they say PvP is “close to where they want it”, but who on earth could possibly say that with a straight face. It’s absolutely miserable for new and experienced players trying to solo que. Who could play this game for more than an hour and not notice the big problem. (just read the catankerous chat in a sPvP game…lol)

Heart of the Mist is a statue museum…literally everything is gone and there is no point for players to just be sitting in this area…it just looks stupid by any objective measure.

AI in this game is the worst programming I can remember. It’s even worse than WoW 1.0. Still to this day, you can summon minions/illusions/etc and they will just stand there or get their abilities sabotaged for no reason. It’s another thing that’s embarassing by any objective measure…yet the “fixes” in the last patch were tons of things nobody was calling for (removal of ranks, 8v8, removal of capricorn, combo of sigils, etc)

Last but not least….they spent all this programming last patch adding new stuff nobody called for…removed things nobody had a problem with…yet they did NOTHING with Skyhammer…Unfreakinbelievable!

This is the twilight zone if PvP is “close to where they want it”. If none of the above make sense, just watch the population stats in PvP and I GUARANTEE they are going down – not up – after the initial “glow” of the last patch wears off.

They even went against their own ideas of “level playing field” to attract pve crowd.
Still lurking around here every few months, checking if the game is alive, and i dont see it ever recovering whit such an aproach (slow updates, unlocks in pvp, no new gamemodes, no templates, …)

Which one of you woudl recommend this game to a friend in its current state?

necro’s still play condi spam, lich-gimmick, terrormancer or MM.
warriors still play Hambow of S/S condi-cancer
ele still play D/D S/D burst builds
guardians still play bunker
engi still spam condis, bunker or decap
mesmers still spam phantasms and stealth
thieves still spam PW/FS/HS
rangers are still spirits or freekill

so what was this huge meta shift?
the only change to the meta i see is turret reaction times were buffed adding another NPC spam build.

the majority of the “changes” were anets usual “shaving” BS which changes nothing, especially at the ridiculously slow rate that they put the patches out.

Please add “remove retalliation in pvp” to the list. As well as limiting how many pets/minions players can have active at one given time! It’s rediculous seing necros running around with 50minions like a mobile petting zoo or something and rangers with 50 spirits (exaggeration i know).

Lastly, remove “bunker” builds from pvp.

When a hardcore player says rewards he probably means More tournaments like Mistleague, a real ladder and some sort of meaning attached to Leaderboards.

If people haven’t figured out A-net’s approach to pvp at this point they never will. To clue you in it is to do about as little as possible as they can to be able to string along the few die hards left. They are not serious about spvp and they have never been. The $$$$$ are not there. I would recommend showing them what you think about GW2 pvp approach by dramatically cutting down your play time or even better yet not playing anymore at all. The answer is not to continue playing a lot.
