Now that ranks are completely devalued and basically hand out dragons to everyone, is there anything left to show that you’ve played PvP for the majority of your gw2 time? Every time I used to see a phoenix I would be like “wow that guy has a lot of time on his hands but a kitten” but now that every casual PvPer will be a dragon then it is no longer prestigious.

I think Anet has underestimated the time and effort it takes to get to rank 50+ these days with all the recent rank buffs. It took me a couple months with straight pvp to get to rank 40 back in the day while a buddy of mine just started PvP a month ago is around rank 40 now.

So lets see..

Ranks/Finishers:
Takes 2 or 3 months of casually playing to max out.

Skins:
Will no longer be able to distinguish a veteran PvP player from a PvEer with skins unlocked being universal between pvp and pve.

Champion Titles:
Took me less than a month to get some of them as 150 wins isn’t all that much.

PvP Exclusive Back Piece:
things looks like it takes less than a day to get.

Rank Titles:
Haven’t heard anything about this, hmm maybe it’s still worth something even though most tourny players don’t have accurately have a title they should have according to their rank because rank points gained from playing tournaments don’t count towards it.

The more you cater to casuals the less you appeal to the hardcore fanbase as there is almost no point in playing at this point unless you just really like the game.

TLDR: basically reminds me of why pure socialism doesn’t work, just handing everything out just makes the pvp experience in GW2 even more shallow.

After a few years we will have enough mats to craft a legendary maybe. Then all we have to do is map completion and get badges of honor.

I will never understand where there aren’t ways to get legendaries thought ONLY WvW and ONLY PvE and ONLY PvP. I hate WvW, so I’ll never go for a legendary.

The reward tracks are a good foundation.

Now they need to make gear/weapons exclusive to pvp and tied to skill.
Thus when we eventually get ladders/seasons they can add reward tracks tied into those.

And remove reward tracks from hotjoin.

For me, personally… I think the shift is incredibly detrimental to the overall PvP format. It’s essentially the last nail in the coffin of an already weak PvP game.

We can grind out several short term goals to get PvE rewards? Really?
We can now bring our skins we earned through PvP into PvE? Really?
We can ALL max out our ranks in 4-5 months from 0? Really?

There’s absolutely no incentive to play competitively now. There’s no reason to form a super-group and crank out wins to edge ahead on a vertical progression. The LB is a joke system, so you can’t really depend on that to maintain any kind of motivation for competitive team play.

So, what’s the point of PvP now? (“To have fun!”) PvE is for prancing around and casually “having fun.” PvP is for honing focus, field awareness, mastering telegraph delivery through animations, etc… It’s THE method in which to get REALLY good at the game. Without a vertical progression as motivation, why would anyone really care about getting better? Why should the PvP player base involve themselves in any kind of effort to be better players when they can simply faceroll to Dragon and put themselves on a superficially equal playing ground with people who are vastly more skilled than they are?

It doesn’t make sense to me, what-so-ever.
