I see a lot of matchmaking bashing but I think a lot of those issues are hard to fix. In 5v5, you are simply part of a team. Most of this tournaments matches consist of randomly assigned team mates with little to no communication. I think a lot of the frustration centers around this.

A 1v1 queue would be interesting. Certainly some builds are more suited for 1v1 then others but new builds would likely develop

I’m not advocating ending 5v5 but just having an additional mode. Like when they used to have team pvp.

easy to use 1:1 training ground yes. Some ranked system no.
Best would be a system where you can pick your oponents class and then you are matched if the other side picks your class, or it assigns you randlomy if no class is picked.
And you can duel specific persons without setting up custom arenas ..

Many of us tried to convince ANet and the PvP upper community in the past. They both just continuously shoot the idea down. They don’t seam to like any system that removes the team barrier from their PvP.

However if you do decide this is what you want. There are actual PvP games that have many many different match types for casual play(Unranked) and 1v1, 3v3, and 5v5s, PvP modes for competitive play(Ranked).

Those games will make you earn your way into Ranked matches tho. You will simply have to grind many many many sometimes hundreds of hours in casual before you can even think about queuing for Ranked matches. So I can see why people will not make the move over, to those competitive games.

If they added 1v1 then we would hear complaints against 1v1 balance. (The game is not balanced around this at all.) Classes would have severe advantages and a new period of QQ would begin. Just enjoy the same game format you have since launch and the same imbalances you always have!

Of course there is interest. Look at all the custom duel servers for those hot join heroes.

But the system is not balanced/build for 1:1. Good when you can do it but ranking makes no sense. I realy like to duel for training and do it in WvW roaming. I woudl like a pvp training arena in the mists. But will it drag lots of unranked players leaving this mode with low population?

This game is balanced around team fights, if you do a 1v1 area there will be a total unbalance bewteen the classes. The best class for 1v1 win, nothing more.

ANet already have big balance issue due to the variety of classes, traits, amulets and overall possible builds in this game and they want to focus on a single area to fix them better.
If you do a 1v1 ranked system you will totally exclude every single necromancer player, for example, just because the necro is the worst 1v1 class.
