For starters, I NEVER afk because I respect that other pixels represent humans.

But what in the hell is my motivation to do otherwise when I know I’m going to get the exact same amount of points? Top player rewards don’t count, you know who will get them before the match ends and it’s a small amount. It’s REALLY depressing with this new point system. I have to audibly tell myself to not stop playing every time we are about to lose.

On a duel server, sure it’s fine, but on a tPvP or even sPvP? Zero motivation.

Because your teammates hates you. I had such a guy yesterday. He wrote: team is not ressing. I am afk.
He did not leave the base until we lost. He was not afk but he was just chatting and blaming people. Hate….. just hate….

It happens, I’ve had 300 point combacks in hot join. But the point is you’re 99.5% guaranteed to get as many points for /sleep as you are for that 300 point comeback.

Agreed. However it doesn’t make for fun games. It also failed in GW1 when dishonor totally failed.

Edit: I mean because almost everyone will opt for the easier reward. Why put in a heroic effort when smoking a bong hit will do just as well?

I do not care about hot joins. But yesterday in soloQ sPvP we won 500:499 after beeing 320:441 down. If you go afk, you will have never a great game.

I sometimes go afk if it gets boring. Like few times the same map – a map I don’t like – and then losing at start. Unbalanced classes(3 mesmer 2 necro one enemy team, my team 2-3 thieves that 1 max is enough). Sometimes you know it will be an easy win for the enemy. And if after the start they are 100-200 points ahead then you can stop playing.

If it’s my favourite map or I’m in the mood to try and classes seem balanced I’ll usually continue. But sometimes if the game is trolling with few bad matchups and same map in a row then you just have to stop if you lose at the beginning.

Because points/glory/rank points don’t matter. Its about the game.

This game is not like League of Legends, where if you get behind in farm, you have less gold and exp and therefore less items and levels, so you mathematically have little chance of coming back.

No, in GW2, you start off at your maximum and stay that way. You have your complete a’rsenal at your disposal at any given time of the match, so there is no reason to afk when you have the potential to turn games around.

Lot of rah rah stuff here. Fact of the matter is sometimes games get to like 350-100 or worse and you are not coming back from that more then one out of 1,000 times. I am not agreeing with afking just please don’t spread it on so thick lol. The real moral is sometimes life sucks and you don’t quit you just muck through doing the best you can. Not that miracles are possible even if they are one in a billion times. The lesson is there is value in toughing it out for little to no reward. It builds character.

This is what makes conquest such a bad game mode if you don’t have a team. If it was a TDM game, he would’ve just died and left. In wow bgs, they would rage quit, get a deserter buff, and a new player would come and take his place. Or the whole team can report him afk and he would be kicked and replaced.

Just block him. There’s no reason to listen to that negativity.

Winning from under a 200 point lead is pretty much the best feeling in the world…
Don’t expect that to happen often though.. Don’t be a Cat and give up.
